Thoughts on this name?

The name I am in love with is [name_f]Aviana[/name_f]. I know to some it may seem made up but it had a lot of meaning to me. 1. It is from the Latin avian which means bird. My nickname from my mom since I was a baby was bird. So it reminds me of my mom. 2. My husband and I first met in Latin class in high school and since [name_f]Aviana[/name_f] comes from the Latin for bird it means a lot to me. My mom loves the name but I have told some friends and they say it reminds them of the water [name_u]Evian[/name_u]. What are your thoughts? Should I use it because it has special meaning to me or should I look for something else?

I think it’s nice. Comparing it with [name_u]Evian[/name_u] is quite a stretch, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

Definitely use it! It’s beautiful and if it has special meaning to you, go for it. I don’t think it sounds like [name_u]Evian[/name_u] at all, it has a long A not an Eh sound. The actress [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_m]Adams[/name_m] named her daughter [name_f]Aviana[/name_f] and I think it’s lovely.

[name_f]Aviana[/name_f] is just a trendy, made up name combining the name [name_f]Ava[/name_f] with the trendy -ana ending. It is not the Latin word for bird. [name_f]Avis[/name_f] is. [name_f]Avis[/name_f] would make an absolutely beautiful name.

This is a beautiful name! I agree that a comparison to [name_u]Evian[/name_u] is a HUGE stretch, and I say use it especially because of the meaning it has for you. I’m wondering if you’re pronouncing it more like [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-vee-ah-na or Ay-vee-ah-na? They both are beautiful, but I’m wondering which is the correct one.

I think it is a beautiful name.
I actually love the name [name_f]Avis[/name_f] but someone asked the other day as to whether it would ever overcome the association with the car rental company. I think it will as [name_f]Avis[/name_f] is a lovely name.

[name_u]Evian[/name_u] being reminscent of [name_f]Aviana[/name_f] is a very big stretch and I would have never made that association. [name_f]Aviana[/name_f] is a lovely name and it is currently in the top 1000 so go for it!

Thank you all for your opinions.
@ casilda I know that [name_f]Avis[/name_f] is also the Latin for bird but the origin for avian is from the Latin for bird as well. [name_f]Aviana[/name_f] is just Avian with an a. Merriam-Webster Search for iPhone. I am worried that it may sound trendy and I understand your feelings towards this name.
@giinkiesI think [name_f]Avis[/name_f] is a lovely name but I cannot overcome the association with the rental car company as well and I believe most of our family would not be able to either.

If you named your daughter [name_f]Avis[/name_f], your family would overcome their association with the car rental company very quickly. FWIW, [name_f]Avis[/name_f] goes better with the other names in your sig.

I don’t think I can overcome the association with as [name_f]Avis[/name_f] as the car rental company as well. I really like [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] which also means bird but that was vetoed pretty quickly by DH and family as being an old ladies name. Thank you for your opinion though.

Go for [name_f]Aviana[/name_f]! It’s super pretty and I don’t think it’s trendy.

I have to agree, [name_f]Aviana[/name_f] does fit well with a few trends, thus it seeming trendy itself

1: [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and similar names like [name_f]Eva[/name_f]
2: Ends in -ana names ([name_f]Audriana[/name_f], [name_f]Adriana[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], etc)

And that was my thought coming in. When I read your personal significance though, I felt slightly more ambivalent about the name. It’s not a name I’d pick, but I do like people choosing something they feel strongly about. If that’s [name_f]Aviana[/name_f] for you, I’d run with it.

I agree with @pacifica
I think meaning has a major significance to choosing the name for your baby.
If you like it and it means that much to you… go for it.

It is in the top 1000 but its still pretty low on the list, it may follow a trend but the name itself isn’t that trendy (as of yet at least)
