[name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother was adopted but recently found out that her birth father was named [name_u]Garland[/name_u] (!) I thought this was such an unusual surprise of a name. Its a nature name for a boy I’ve never even considered… And I thought I had come across them all.
What do you all think? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it? Hate it?
Its really lovely isn’t it? I think my only issue is that I feel like everyone would shorten it to Gary… Which has way less appeal for me… I’m going to think up some combos for it.
[name_u]James[/name_u] fits really well and I was thinking this too. [name_u]Garland[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] sounds like the name of an old movie star.
[name_u]Garland[/name_u] is sweet! It has a nice Roaring 20’s vibe to it, very fun but dapper. I don’t think it’d be shortened all the time to [name_u]Gary[/name_u] cause they have different sounds.
Yes! Like [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Gable[/name_m], or [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] [name_m]Clift[/name_m]. [name_u]Garland[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is very handsome
I [name_u]Love[/name_u] It! So handsome! [name_f]My[/name_f] best friend’s dad growing up was named [name_u]Garland[/name_u] everyone called him [name_u]Gary[/name_u], but I have loved it ever since! Really cool!
[name_u]Garland[/name_u] is a great name. Personally I associate it as a surname, of someone I know. Plus there’s also [name_f]Judy[/name_f] [name_u]Garland[/name_u], great actress!
[name_u]Gary[/name_u] is a nice name! Thats my grampas name, short for [name_m]Garrett[/name_m].
[name_f]My[/name_f] only thought is, would your grandma be ok with you using the name after her birth dad, if she was adopted? I’m not sure what the reasoning was leading to the adoption, but I would assume she was in little to no correspondence to him?.. would your grandma be happier knowing you honored a name after a parent that was there for her, or was a part of it moreso than her birth dad?
Actually she is the one who suggested it! She really would like us to use it. I think its been really special to her to get in touch with the living relatives of her birth parents and figure out the whole story of her adoption. She had a pretty crazy childhood.
But my husband is not a fan of the name so I don’t think we are really going to consider it for this baby. I think its a lovely name though so wanted to share it with you all. At this point Im just thinking of fantasy combos for future babies that we likely aren’t having
