I’ve never given this name much thought…but it is standing out to me today!
It has [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (and I love Mary) and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] (and I love [name_f]Etta[/name_f], too!) but I wonder if together the name is a bit too fussy? It’s definitely a way longer name than my usual style.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, what the name reminds you of, etc! Also what nickname would you use? Thank you!!
Awe, I like it! She feels sock-hop spunky and totally ready for use on a modern baby.
It’s long, but fussy wasn’t the first description that came to mind—it didn’t come to mind at all. To me, [name_f]Marietta[/name_f] is perfectly contained and utterly cute.
If I had a [name_f]Marietta[/name_f], I think I’d nickname her [name_f]Etta[/name_f] or [name_f]Ettie[/name_f]. Those are so charming, and they’re very intuitive of course. (However, [name_f]Meta[/name_f] was the first nickname to come to mind! The tech company makes it feel a little unusable… but it’s still a great nickname.)
oooh, I adore [name_f]Marietta[/name_f]! it feels very 50s, dancing, and spunky! i imagine a classic, 40-50s type of woman at the seashore for the summer; Marina’s spunky older cousin. I’d use [name_f]Mari[/name_f] as a nickname!
I like [name_f]Marietta[/name_f]! It doesn’t feel fussy, to me it has more of a sweet retro vibe! I knew one when I was younger (she pronounced it as 3 syllables, not 4, which maybe makes it sound less fussy anyway) and she got called [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Mari[/name_f], and [name_f]Marita[/name_f]. I like all three nicknames!
[name_f]Marietta[/name_f] feels pretty sharp and cool - not fussy imo - and it feels like a good fit if you like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] but want something with either more flair or length
I wouldn’t say fussy at all - to my mind fussiness has more to do with sound than length, and the hard ‘t’ of etta makes it sound distinctly no-nonsense. I think [name_f]Marietta[/name_f] is precious!
So pretty! Very sweet and vintage feeling. I would probably go for [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Mari[/name_f], or [name_u]Marie[/name_u] as a nickname.
It’s lovely I love the idea of using a combo like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] with the NN [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Etta[/name_f].
Summary
Also I’ve been thinking about [name_f]Mary[/name_f] combos a lot lately because I am pregnant & [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is one of our top girls names. I love a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] double but my husband doesn’t, so I’ve been trying to think of combos that we’d both like, that have the option of a double NN but not necessarily something she’d always go by. And one of my favorites has been [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Jules[/name_u], but [name_f]Julia[/name_f] has seemed too plain. Anyway just now I realized that [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Julietta[/name_f] would work for both [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Jules[/name_u] & [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Etta[/name_f]. That’s going on my list for sure. So thanks for this post!!!
@Sadie307 this is fabulous!!! Honestly I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Etta[/name_f] as a first and middle name is so cute too but maybe too cheesy? idk, I like it! But i love your idea of the “Etta” middle names with Mary!! I think those are great options for you guys!! [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Julietta[/name_f] is incredible
Honestly I think [name_f]Marietta[/name_f] is beautiful!! [name_f]Marietta[/name_f] is such gorgeous name, she has this frilly ballerina feel along with having a bright European flair. The imagery surrounding [name_f]Marietta[/name_f] are gorgeous fairy castles, beautiful summery landscapes featuring orange groves, stunning beaches, pretty fishing towns along with the ballet with pretty tutus and pink lace. Nickname wise I would probably go with [name_f]Etta[/name_f] she’s fun and spunky.
I love lots of [name_u]Mar[/name_u] / [name_f]Mary[/name_f] names, and [name_f]Marietta[/name_f] is beautiful! It feels girly and strong at the same time, and the nickname potential is great! I don’t think of it as fussy- certainly no more so than names like [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]!
