Thoughts on this name🌺

Hey everyone!

So there’s a [name_f]British[/name_f] reality star called [name_f]Ferne[/name_f] McCann who has two daughters, [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] and [name_f]Finty[/name_f]. I’ve been crushing on the name [name_f]Finty[/name_f] since she announced it I just think its really sweet. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure if its actually usable or if it sounds a bit too ā€˜posh’.

What are people’s honest thoughts on [name_f]Finty[/name_f]?
(hypothetical, just collecting atm) x

I like it . It’s differnt and has a cute quality. I seen the combo finty [name_f]Monroe[/name_f] before :black_heart::heartbeat:🩵:rainbow:

I like it as a nickname, no more. I know [name_f]Ferne[/name_f] named her [name_f]Finty[/name_f] with inspiration from [name_f]Judi[/name_f] Dench’s daughter where hers is a nickname (not sure why this is her nickname as her name is Tara). It’s also a sweet nickname for [name_m]Fintan[/name_m].

I wouldn’t call it posh. But my accent butchers it (I don’t pronounce my t’s so it’s just ā€˜finny’ for me lol).

Oh, I think it’s adorable!! I don’t really get a posh vibe from it at all, it feels more like something along the lines of [name_f]Amity[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Serenity[/name_f] to me because of the -ty ending? It feels very sweet, maybe the slightest bit American. But that’s just my non-UK perspective!! I think it can work on its own, although I’d find it a little bit more usable as a nickname (to any name that lends to the nn Fin(n), like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f], [name_f]Finja[/name_f], etc.!)

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was Rihanna’s fashion brand Fenty (which I now see actually closed in 2021). I can’t speak to the ā€˜posh’ element as an American, but it does remind me of other upper crust nicknames like [name_f]Bunty[/name_f], [name_f]Minty[/name_f], [name_m]Jonty[/name_m], etc. The sound is cute, though!

i don’t know. not a fan personally, as it reminds of the word ā€œflintyā€, but it could make a cute nickname for Finnila.

Ooo [name_f]Finty[/name_f] is adorable!

It definitely strikes me as a posh Telegraph name at first, but that’s not an awful thing. It has a really sweet sound and is usable - a little [name_f]Finty[/name_f] wouldn’t feel out of place in a classroom full of Tillys, Lotties, Flossies (which are trending in [name_f]England[/name_f] right now).

If you’re worried about the usability, maybe a full name that gives the nickname [name_f]Finty[/name_f] would suit you? You’ve already got some good suggestions from the other Berries but my favourites would be [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Fifer[/name_f], [name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f].

It’s cute! I see it as a nickname but as many nicknames, they can stand on their own and I think [name_f]Finty[/name_f] can as well.

[name_f]Finty[/name_f] is pretty cute, with a hint of sass and spark. I think it sounds a bit less posh than Purdy or [name_f]Bunty[/name_f], a bit more, well, flinty and strong, a bit more quirky? I think the fact it sounds like the make up brand ā€˜Fenty’ and the similarity to fashionable [name_m]Finn[/name_m] helps too - it feels a bit more stylish?

Unfortunately [name_f]Finty[/name_f] is very close in sound to the word that means ā€œfakeā€ in my language.
I like [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] though!

[name_f]Finty[/name_f] is adorable, firmly in the realm of ā€˜posh Telegraph’ baby names though (in my opinion!). As others have pointed above out, it was originally [name_f]Judy[/name_f] Dench’s daughter’s nickname and I think I prefer it as a nn - for [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], perhaps? But it’s definitely a name that could conceivably stand alone!

[name_f]Finty[/name_f] is new to me, but I think I like it. It’s so spunky and fun, but not in a childish way. Not too posh at all. But then I’ve never understood what the problem is with names sounding ā€œposhā€.

@Mary_Rose Yeah i definitely get the Ā“posh telegraph’ vibe haha i don’t mind it i just don’t know if it sounds a bit silly if you get me. Definitely loving it as a nickname for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]! x

@Rosebeth I’m glad you don’t think its childish, thats the fear I have with some of the names I like being quite cutesy and nicknamey. I don’t mind Ā“posh’ names I just am not posh haha so I feel like people i know would judge. (not that i’m having kids anytime soon lol)
