Are these names usable in the United States? [name]Do[/name] you think he would be teased endlessly? (We live in a very diverse area in the [name]North[/name] [name]East[/name] if that helps)
Does [name]Valentine[/name]/[name]Valentino[/name] mesh well with older sisters: [name]Josephine[/name] ([name]Josie[/name]), [name]Genevieve[/name] ([name]Neve[/name]), and [name]Rosemarie[/name] ([name]Romy[/name])?
[name]Valentino[/name] would work much better than [name]Valentine[/name]. I think it matches very well with his older sisters.
He will be teased in school though, that’s inevitable. A name that’s synonymous with love, crushes, and romance? He’ll be teased in elementary school for sure.
I really like [name]Valentine[/name]. I’ve never considered [name]Valentino[/name]. I think they both work with your girls’ names. I think if you do name a son that, he would definately be teased. I don’t think that I would be brave enough to use it.
I think [name]Valentino[/name] sounds a bit more modern/hip because of the -o ending. And I assume you will be using a nickname for him like you do with the girls - [name]Val[/name] or [name]Valo[/name]? I think if he goes primarily by a nickname, this will drastically cut down on the teasing. [name]Val[/name] and [name]Valo[/name] are very cool. And if you live in an area with a lot of Italian and/or Latino names, I don’t think a little [name]Valentino[/name] will be as “out-there”. I love the name and think it goes well with your girls! I’d say go for it - there are worse things to be associated with, and I am advocating for nickname [name]Valo[/name]! So cool.
I think [name]Valentino[/name] works, but I would hesitate with [name]Valentine[/name]. [name]Even[/name] in a culturally diverse area, if I were to hear [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Rosemarie[/name], and [name]Valentine[/name] together I would think they were all girls.
While I love [name]Valentina[/name] on a girl, I think [name]Valentino[/name] is just too feminine sounding for a boy. There would probably be lots of teasing about hearts and romance. As a middle name it’s probably okay.
[name]Valo[/name] is a bad-a$$ nn potentially, [name]Val[/name] though depending on where you are will bring up [name]Valerie[/name] more quickly than anything else.
[name]Tino[/name] is a nn I’ve known men with this name to use, and that one’s pretty cool/tough too.
I agree, if there’s a sizeable Italian / or Spanish-speaking population where you are, [name]Valentino[/name] is manageable, but elsewhere tough. [name]Valentine[/name], I think not.
[name]Even[/name] in Italian / Spanish speaking areas though [name]Valentina[/name] is growing for girls though.
Thanks everyone. I realize I tend to migrate toward “softer” sounding boys names. My husband vetoed the name last night but I really appreciate the input.
