Thoughts on Valerie?

What is your opinion on the name [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]? What spelling do you prefer? And what are some good middle names or names similar to [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] that you like better?

I like [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]. It’s sweet, and that’s how I’d spell it.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]. Some people here may consider it a bit dated, but to be it’s soft, feminine and strong. It has everything I want in a name and I’d use it in a heartbeat, if only [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] doesn’t rank so high on my list. I definitely prefer it spelled [name_f]Valerie[/name_f].

[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]

[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] is so extremely 70s/80s that, to me, it’s unusable. I don’t think it ages well, and it has too strong of a whiney, cheerleader essence to it to adequately suit any other personality type, especially considering its lack of versatile nickname options.

[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] gets a very hard no from me.

I feel like it’s pretty dated. It’s not a bad name, just not my style. What about [name_f]Melanie[/name_f]?

I like the name [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] but it’s my step-mother’s name so I would never use it. Any other suggestions that aren’t as dated as [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]?

[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] is my wonderful grandmother’s name, I loved her to bits and I love her sweet, strong name all the more for the association. My son’s middle name ([name_u]Valentine[/name_u]) is in honour of her, and had he been a girl he would have had [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] in the middle. It’s a beautiful vintage relative rarity over here in the UK, and the meaning is strong and positive. I’d love to see this one used

Getting feedback on names is why we come here, but the nameberry elite don’t have to like a name for it to be a great pick for you- when I had my daughter almost 6 years ago I fell in love with a name that namberry describes as “has a musty 1940s feel- try [xyz] instead.” It got no love on the forums, but I really liked it and DH loved it and it has suited our daughter well (we frequently get compliments on her name and nn).

So if you love [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], I say go for it! For similar names I would recomend [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] or [name_f]Veronica[/name_f].

I looooooove [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] and [name_f]Valeria[/name_f] and other similar names

I quite like [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], with that spelling. I also like [name_u]Vale[/name_u], or [name_u]Vale[/name_u] could be a nickname for [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]. Names that have a similar feel to me are [name_f]Melanie[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], and [name_u]Julie[/name_u].

I love it! Starts strong, ends pretty. It’s on my list.
I would use nn [name_u]Vale[/name_u].

To me it’s the right amount of dated

I haven’t heard of the name [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] in quite awhile…its kinda fun to hear it again. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to say I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the idea of the nickname [name_u]Vale[/name_u]!

I love [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]!

I think I prefer [name_f]Valeria[/name_f], but I also like [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]! I think it’s strong and pretty. I love the idea of [name_u]Vale[/name_u] as a nn too!

Met a [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] a few months ago. The fact that she was confident in the truest sense made her name that more appealing to me. I really like it, with [name_u]Vale[/name_u] or [name_f]Valley[/name_f]/ [name_f]Vali[/name_f] as nn options.

Very pretty.

Its nms, I agree it’s dated, but V names or names with V’s in them are definitely coming back and/or are popular at the moment.
