Wondered what you all thought of the name [name]Vesper[/name] for a baby girl?
Due in [name]October[/name] and don’t know the sex. We are hoping to have a couple of names for each sex that we like and then we pick which we think suits best when baby is born. The only other two girls names we are agreed on are [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Cora[/name].
[name]Vesper[/name] was thrown into the mix yesterday and we both like it. Would like to know what everyone’s initial thoughts are? I’m concerned its a little too unusual. I like names that are pretty but not too common. Thanks!
I actually really like [name]Vesper[/name]; it conjures up this image of dusk where the stars are faint and the sun is low, the tipping point before night. I really love it!
Thanks, its interesting to hear different thoughts. It means ‘evening star’ in Latin and is also associated with Catholic evening prayer. It’s a bit more ‘out there’ than our other choices. It’s also the name of one of the characters in Casino [name]Royale[/name] - [name]Vesper[/name] Lynd.
I’m never sure if its wise to give a child such an unusual name. Her middle name would be [name]Jacqueline[/name] so it would be [name]Vesper[/name] [name]Jacqueline[/name] Petch.
There’s also the association of [name]Vespa[/name] scooters unfortunately but not sure how common they are for people to be thinking of that.
I love it, especially as a middle. There was one [name]Berry[/name] who had a girl named [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Vesper[/name], which I like.
I don’t think of the scooter, and [name]Vesper[/name] [name]Jacqueline[/name] is very pretty.
Great choices, I like [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] too.
I have a soft spot for the name [name]Vesper[/name]. I’m not entirely sure why, but names related to stars are something of a family tradition, so maybe that’s it. I also just like the same.
That said, I think you might be well advised to go with [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Cora[/name]. Given that your other taste options are much more classic, I can see namer’s regret being a possibility with [name]Vesper[/name]. I also think with your last name being strong and punchy, and starting with a P, [name]Vesper[/name] kind of clashes with it. Together they’re a little too strong and punchy, and there’s kind of a trip over the two P’s back to back.
Since [name]Violet[/name] starts with a V and Petch starts with a P I think [name]Violet[/name] nicknamed [name]Vesper[/name] would be reasonable!
I love [name]Vesper[/name]! I think it’s so much more interesting and has a lot more strength and intellect than [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] (to be fair I could just really dislike those names). It’s unusual and beautiful and definitely usable.
I like [name]Vesper[/name]. I think it is spunky and fun. If you think its to masculine sounding how about [name]Vespera[/name]? I would love to meet someone named [name]Vesper[/name]. And I think the [name]James[/name] [name]Bond[/name] reference is so fun.
I’m not a huge fan; it’s a little too “out there” for me, and if I just saw the name on a page I’d be hesitant as to the gender of the owner. I absolutely adore the name [name]Cora[/name], and if [name]Vesper[/name] is really your thing, [name]Cora[/name] [name]Vesper[/name] sounds pretty.
