Thoughts on Vintage/Bohemian Name List

We’re currently TTC #2 and I have been drawn to vintag/boho baby names. Would love to hear your thoughts on the below. [name_m]Favorite[/name_m]? Ranking? Any imagery? I’d love to hear what kind of person you picture when you hear the name. Thanks in advance!

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
Elsa Josephine

Such pretty names! My personal favourites are [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. They both go so well with [name_f]Willow[/name_f]!

My favorites:

1°) [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. It’s on my list.
2°) [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - another love: [name_f]Alma[/name_f]! It’s the name of my favorite character [name_u]EVER[/name_u]: Miss [name_f]Alma[/name_f] LeFay [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], from Miss [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]'s Peculiar Children book series.
3°) [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a very stunning name. This combo flows very well!
4°) [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - SO VINTAGE! I’ve been in love with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] recently, it’s cute and timeless and international and PRETTY!

I’m not a fan of the others, sorry.

I cannot figure people when I hear any name, lol. Sorry.

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] list! I’ll rank them in order of preference (favorites in bold):

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I adore this spelling. Very snazzy name!

[name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Alma[/name_f]'s meaning of “soul.” I also like the initials A.J. ALSO there’s an absolutely wonderful picture book that came out in 2018 called “[name_f]Alma[/name_f] and [name_m]How[/name_m] She Got Her Name.” I actually think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (or some variation) is one of her middle names in the book. If you end up naming her [name_f]Alma[/name_f], you should definitely acquire this book! It made me fall in love with the name.

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - This sounds gorgeous when said aloud! Perfect flow.

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I love the name [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], and liked it before Frozen came out. That being said, the name does have a strong association with the Frozen character. But! If you’re going to bear the name of a character, [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is a pretty awesome one to share a name with. I’ve known Ariels and Jasmines, so why not [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]? (Also, your daughter can know that she doesn’t just have a Disney princess name, she has a queen’s name!)

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - Very pretty!

[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Camellia[/name_f]/[name_f]Camelia[/name_f] but this is pretty. Also like the initials C.J. Definitely has a boho/vintage vibe!

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I don’t like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] as much as most people do because it looks too similar to “violent” for me. This is a solid vintage choice though. But I don’t think it has the best flow.

[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I do think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is a solid middle choice for [name_f]Etta[/name_f], since it adds a nice balance to the shorter first name. However, I also find [name_f]Etta[/name_f] to be a bit lacking in personality, like it should be at the end of something or be a nickname. I don’t find it memorable and would probably wonder what it was short for.

My vote goes to [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Alma[/name_f], or [name_f]Flora[/name_f]!

The two I like best are:

[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: I really like this, and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] would be a really cute nickname. Very fresh and urban sounding.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: Very nice! Also very fresh and urban sounding. But I’m not sure I would use it with [name_f]Willow[/name_f]–feels a little too much.

My thoughts on the others:

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: It’s fine. I’m very over [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: It’s also fine, but I’m a little bored by [name_f]Violet[/name_f] too, especially because it seems to be the go-to name for people who think they’re being super unique. Also a little too much with [name_f]Willow[/name_f].
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: I would assume you were very Italian.
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: Not a huge [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] fan. But I agree with P.P. that CJ could be cute.
[name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: I don’t think [name_f]Alma[/name_f] is ready for a revival yet.

I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] the best. If you are open to suggestions I would suggest [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]

My faves are:
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - stunning, [name_f]Etta[/name_f] is wonderful
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - love it! It feels so sophisticated but fun

Thank you all so much for your thoughtful responses so far. I have had so much fun reading them.

@marystuart - thanks for the insight on [name_f]Alma[/name_f]! I’ll have to check that series out. I have heard good things!

@silversky109 - I am nervous about [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], too. That is my main worry! But I have also liked the name prior to Frozen so it is so tough!

I really love the idea of CJ from [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]. Thanks for pointing that out

Open to more thoughts!

[name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] are too close for me- too much “ill”. [name_m]Willy[/name_m] and [name_f]Milly[/name_f]!

I also think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] ([name_f]Milly[/name_f]) is not distinct enough - maybe Emilia is better as more likely to use Emmy, if it matter. I’d probably only choose [name_f]Flora[/name_f] if you’re up for containing the nature theme or being asked why not!

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] seems to be the best suited - though perhaps the most expected. [name_f]Alma[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f] or [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]? I like [name_f]Alma[/name_f] the best of these. It’d be Alma, Violet then Elsa with Willow for me.

Otherwise, maybe [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Elka[/name_f], [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucette[/name_f] (or another [name_f]Etta[/name_f] name for [name_f]Etta[/name_f]), [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Irene[/name_f], [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] or [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]?

With [name_f]Willow[/name_f], I like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] the best-- naturey but vintage!

My other favorites from your list are [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], and [name_f]Alma[/name_f]. The others are nice combos, but don’t seem to fit as well with [name_f]Willow[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Alma[/name_f] is an absolutely gorgeous sister name for [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. To me they have the same serene, earthy vibe but are still quite distinct from each other. I think they would make a stunning sister set!

I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] best with [name_f]Willow[/name_f]

This is a gorgeous list! My childhood best friend was [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], so that name has always conjured up the image of a bright, sunny, and intelligent young woman. Ranked in order:

  1. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: This is a stunning name, and I like the nature connection, especially with a sister [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. I picture a [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as a kind, adventurous woman with a tenacious resolve and a bond with nature.
  2. [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: This is a very, very close second. This name is regal, but strong. I imagine a leader with guts and vision.
  3. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: Again, a beautiful name with a nature connection. I picture a vibrant artist.
  4. [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: I love both of these names, but I’m not sure I love them together as much as some of your other combinations. [name_f]Alma[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] both feel gently vintage, but always beautiful. I picture an [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as bookish, wise, and gentle.
  5. [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: I did note the similarity between [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f], which is why I put this a bit lower, but if that doesn’t bother you, then I say this is amazing. I like that the somewhat quirky [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] balances out the regal [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and I think they flow well together. I imagine a strong, calming person with quiet resolve and poise.
6)[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: I think these names are a bit of a stylistic mismatch, with [name_f]Etta[/name_f] being just a bit too informal with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] for my particular tastes. That said, this is still a great name, and I picture a rebel with a creative mind and a big heart. (This is probably my super-nerd coming out, but this feels like Han Solo’s granddaughter!)
  6. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: I prefer the “E” spelling with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. This name is beautiful and compatible with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as a chic vintage revival, but personally I am tiring of it a bit because it is SO popular right now. It makes me think of someone with a big, gregarious personality, sense of humor, and kindness.
I truly don’t think you can go wrong with any one of these names. They are all stunning, stylish, and classic. As a note, I really love the [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] from your bio! Best of luck.

Thank you for your thoughtful response! This is exactly what I was looking for in terms of imagery. I loved reading this. Very helpful!! xo

Thank you all sooo much for your responses. xo

I think you can’t go wrong with either [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Alma[/name_f], or [name_f]Flora[/name_f].

But out of those three, my favorite is [name_f]Alma[/name_f]. It’s spunky, yet calming, and like [name_f]Willow[/name_f], it starts and ends with the same letter.

I think you will be behind the curve with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]–they are everywhere. [name_f]Alma[/name_f] makes me laugh because my best friend’s mother was named [name_f]Alma[/name_f] and we all thought it was completely horrible. Sixty years may have softened that one a bit–but I still don’t get the attraction. But [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f]–lovely.

Although it’s no longer really on anyone’s radar, the lioness from [name_m]Born[/name_m] [name_u]Free[/name_u] was named [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]…I think of that association rather than the Disney flick.

I adore [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Alma[/name_f]!

[name_f]Alma[/name_f] gives me a similar vibe as [name_f]Willow[/name_f], soft and gentle but at the same time I can imagine a leather wearing badass woman named [name_f]Alma[/name_f]. [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is amazing
