it was my grandfather’s name and my DH’s nickname as a kid was [name_m]Fred[/name_m], so I thought it might be a nod to that as well. I would use it as a middle name and not a first.
do you think it could work as a middle to [name_m]Knox[/name_m]? I’m really trying to find something that works with it and I just can’t seem to find anything.
I’m always in favor of finding ways to incorporate a family name, and [name_f]Winfred[/name_f] honors both your grandfather and your husband. I think [name_m]Knox[/name_m] [name_f]Winfred[/name_f] sounds just fine! I like to watch the rhythm of the syllables, and a one-beat then two-beat name combo is a good rhythm. Also, the sounds don’t conflict or run into each other, or sound choppy (like too many hard consonants together). I think the W and F soften the X. I think it’s a fun pairing of a modern popular name with a vintage family name.
I think [name_f]Winfred[/name_f] definitely works as a middle! [name_m]Knox[/name_m] [name_f]Winfred[/name_f] is very handsome as a combo
I would also like [name_m]Frederic[/name_m], [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], [name_m]Winfield[/name_m], [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m], or [name_m]Winston[/name_m].
What about [name_u]Eliott[/name_u] [name_f]Winfred[/name_f]? I like that together and saw it in your signature.
[name_f]Winfred[/name_f] and [name_m]Knox[/name_m] feel very different from one another, but that might work for a first and middle.
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is a female name so that’s my only hesitation. I do love [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] and [name_m]Winfield[/name_m] and [name_m]Winthrop[/name_m], but I would hate a boy to get teased about his middle name.
Still, it’s just a middle and it’s nice to honor loved ones.
Thank you all for the feedback! I think I am liking the “w” next to the “x”, it makes it feel a bit softer. so I’ll probably go with [name_f]Winfred[/name_f] or [name_m]William[/name_m] with [name_m]Knox[/name_m].
@lesliemarion, I’m not really fond of [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] as a first name. not sure why because I really like it as a middle. [name_f]Winfred[/name_f] is actually my step-dads first name too (he doesn’t go by it) and my mom’s name is [name_u]Ray[/name_u], so people always think my mom is [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] and my step-dad is [name_u]Ray[/name_u]/[name_m]Raymond[/name_m]. (my aunt and uncle have the same problem actually.) I think as a middle it shouldn’t be a problem.
