Thoughts on Zephyrine

My top boy name for our 1st baby was [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u], but now that we have named our daughter [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] it is out of the running for this child if it is a boy (too matchy).

I love the name [name_f]Severine[/name_f] but don’t love the meaning (stern) and it came to me today that maybe [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] would work in it’s place plus the meaning and feeling I liked from [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]!

My questions to the Berries:

  1. The feel of the name in general? Flow with [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]?
  2. Nn possibilities? [name_f]Effie[/name_f] perhaps?
  3. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce/how do you think Americans would? [name_m]Zeff[/name_m]-reen? Zef-er-in? Zef-er-een?

To be honest, I can see why you like the name, but I don’t like it. It was in usage back in the 1700-1800’s, but, I think it’s too complicated and difficult to spell/pronounce. It would likely get some double takes when you introduce your daughter as well. However, I believe that, if you like it, since there are no nickname/bullying reasons why you shouldn’t use it, go for it! It does flow nicely with [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], although, thanks to a song I adored as a younger teen (and I still love it), [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] gives off a very romantic vibe for me, and [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] doesn’t fit that bill.

[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Verona[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Aviana[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Adoria[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Celestia[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]

If you do use [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f] could work, but I’m not sure any other nicknames could work with it. It’s a very awkward name to deal with.

I’m honestly not sure how to pronounce it at all, so I can’t comment anymore on that.

1) The feel of the name in general? Flow with [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]?
I love the feel of [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f], but I wouldn’t have the guts to use it as a first name myself. [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] are perfect together.
2) Nn possibilities? [name_f]Effie[/name_f] perhaps?
[name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the idea of [name_f]Effie[/name_f]. You could always go with Zephry or Zeffie.
3) [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce/how do you think Americans would? [name_m]Zeff[/name_m]-reen? Zef-er-in? Zef-er-een?
I pronounce [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] as zeff-er-ine. I’m from Australia and I’m not sure how Americans would pronounce it.

I agree with @lawsonhaley , I can see why you like the name but i much prefer it in the middle spott ( one of my favorite combos are [name_f]Musetta[/name_f] [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] [name_f]Azure[/name_f] ) . Althought I think its cute with [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] i prefer [name_f]Severine[/name_f] .

Some other ideas for [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] 's little sister :

[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] , [name_f]Millie[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eva[/name_f] , [name_f]Evie[/name_f] , [name_u]Angel[/name_u] , [name_f]Elle[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Vivianna[/name_f] nn [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] , [name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] : Nevie , [name_f]Eve[/name_f]/ [name_f]Evie[/name_f] , [name_f]Genny[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ana[/name_f] , [name_f]Anie[/name_f] , [name_f]Stasia[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Ariana[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Odette[/name_f]

If you use [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] i like [name_f]Effie[/name_f] as nn . Others : [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] , Errie .

I pr it Zef-er-een but i dont know if its the right way .

Thanks ladies!

@lawsonhaley, the honesty is appreciated! I know what you mean about it being a bit of a complicated name, and that is my main hesitation I suppose. The spelling alone would throw so many people! Thanks for your suggestions, I do like [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] but couldn’t love [name_f]Sera[/name_f] for a nn, maybe [name_f]Severine[/name_f] is where I need to stick and just get over my dislike of the meaning.

@fiammetta, Thanks for the feedback! I know what you mean about having the guts (I love your list, [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is a fave of mine but I don’t think I could ever have the guts to use that one!)…And yes, nn of [name_f]Effie[/name_f] is half the appeal of this complicated name!

Thanks for this! I do love your list, [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is probably my fave there but I worry it will become popular! I agree that [name_f]Severine[/name_f] is so nice, can you counsel me to get over my irrational feelings about it meaning stern?

Zay-fair-reen is how I say the name. I am American, but I have a background in [name_m]French[/name_m] so that influences me a little bit. I think most americans would say zeff-er-ryne or zeff-er-reen maybe.

I think it’s really lovely. [name_f]Severine[/name_f] is another good choice. [name_m]Both[/name_m] fit with [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] but I think [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] actually works better. They both have a jaunty feel to me that matches well.

I think that now that [name_f]Luna[/name_f] has been used by [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_u]Cruz[/name_u] it might become a little more popular . But i wouldnt worry too much . As for [name_f]Severine[/name_f] : yes i agree that meaning is important but i dont think anyone ( who is not a name nerd  ) will know the meaning of [name_f]Severine[/name_f] . People use all the time name with worst meanings such as : [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] / [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] " blind " , [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] " unlucky " etc . I dont think these bothers them . Also there is an actress who plays on Skyfall a character named [name_f]Severine[/name_f] . I think this will make people more familar with that name .

I totally agree, most people would have no idea about the meaning but it was such a big reason in choosing my daughter’s name I feel odd not having that same criteria, does that make sense?

And you bring up a GREAT second point about [name_f]Severine[/name_f], that gives my H reservations, is that [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] was used in Casino [name_m]Royale[/name_m] and now [name_f]Severine[/name_f] in Skyfall! [name_m]Will[/name_m] people make the [name_m]Bond[/name_m] girl connection (totally unintentional one I might add!)

No problem, I’m glad I could help! I was definitely thrown by the spelling, but then again, a LOT of people are thrown when I correct them on the spelling of my own name from the common [name_f]Hayley[/name_f]/[name_f]Hailey[/name_f] spellings. (you have no idea how many times I have to say “[name_u]Haley[/name_u] with no I and only 1 y”). For [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] (a fave of my own), I also dislike [name_f]Sera[/name_f], so I would use [name_f]Effie[/name_f].

[name_f]Severine[/name_f] is also nice, and the meaning issue’s happened to me as well. Bronagh (brona) was a favourite of mine, until I found out the name means ‘solemn or sorrowful’ [name_f]Lola[/name_f] until I found out it meant ‘lady of sorrows’ and [name_f]Mia[/name_f] until I learned it meant ‘bitter’. However, chances are, the meaning of your child’s name won’t be discovered by many (unless they have an odd 11th grade [name_f]Media[/name_f] Studies teacher who requests that everyone in the class do a presentation on the meaning of their full name, like I did)

[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] is very similar to [name_f]Severine[/name_f] and also has the [name_f]Effie[/name_f] potential, but with a nicer meaning  [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] would also be nice. Good luck!

in regards to the [name_m]Bond[/name_m] girl issue, I never would’ve put the two together (even though I have seen both of them) as [name_m]Bond[/name_m] girl names. I wouldn’t worry too much about that, seeing as though only [name_m]Bond[/name_m] fans would really link those together

Honestly I had no idea that [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] was used on Casino [name_m]Royale[/name_m] !! I dont think anyone ( expect [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Bond[/name_m] obsessive fans ) will make the connection . I think there are going to be another film in the future with another bond girl so people will remember that name and not [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] & [name_f]Severine[/name_f] . And when your girls will be old the whole thing will belong in the past so i dont think you have nothing to worry imo

I have a feeling this is the case in general, just have to convince my H!

I love it. I have it as a middle name on my list ([name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] [name_f]Saga[/name_f]). I think it sounds beautiful and has great history.

For nicknames, Zeph, Zephy, [name_f]Effie[/name_f], Zeen, Reen, [name_f]Rena[/name_f], Phina, [name_f]Zina[/name_f]…

I pronounce it zephyr-een.
