Thoughts on

So, I’m still very young (in high school, in fact) and becoming a mother isn’t on my mind just quite yet… But, as addicted to names as I am, I’m always thinking of what I’ll name them when the time comes. With that being said, I was wondering what your thoughts are on one of my favourites of this year…

[name]Gwendolyn[/name] [name]Frostine[/name]

With [name]Gwendolyn[/name], I love the old-fashioned ring it has and the variety of names from [name]Gwen[/name] to [name]Winnie[/name], my particular favourite being [name]Wendy[/name], most likely influenced by the character from [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name]. In it’s full form, it’s very lady-like, which is something else I love about it. And, as I learned recently, it was in fact the name of my great-grandmother (though she had the original spelling [name]Gwendolen[/name]).

[name]Frostine[/name], of course, is a stark contrast of [name]Gwendolyn[/name], something I consider impossible to avoid with myself who indulges in both classic and unusual names, most probably due to myself being a writer. However, back to the name, it’s fresh and winter-esque (winter being my favourite season), and it holds a prettiness I absolutely love. I understand it may be a little too unique, but is that bad especially that it’s a middle name? It’s also French, of which could resort to my French lineage.

I understand there’s no need to be thinking of this, and that I should, when I find him, give my partner a choice in baby naming. I’m just interested in hearing the response for [name]Gwendolyn[/name] [name]Frostine[/name]. Thank you!

[name]Gwendolyn[/name] is a lovely name with poise and class, and I especially like the multitude of nickname possibilities. I love the creativity behind [name]Frostine[/name] and the meaning it has for you, but the “ine” ending sounds dated to me. I would prefer [name]Frost[/name]. [name]Gwendolyn[/name] [name]Frostine[/name] is a gorgeous and yet a little quirky combination that I love.

[name]Gwendolyn[/name] [name]Frostine[/name] is too fairytale-fantasy imo, I love [name]Gwendolyn[/name], and [name]Frostine[/name] is pretty. But it’s too Ice [name]Queen[/name] with [name]Gwendolyn[/name].

I think something more demure, like [name]Harper[/name] [name]Frostine[/name] would be better. Not that [name]Harper[/name] is an actually suggestion, just the first thing that came to mind.

I strongly dislike [name]Frostine[/name]. I don’t like made up names in the first place, but this one is definitely near the top of the list. [name]Frost[/name] is so beautiful and works perfectly with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. [name]Gwendolyn[/name] [name]Frost[/name] is absolutely gorgeous.

Hmm. I’m fine with [name]Frostine[/name] myself-- I like the quirkiness and the 3-2 syllable combo. But as a [name]Gwendolyn[/name] nn [name]Gwen[/name], I have to admit I deeply loathe the nn [name]Wendy[/name]. Not sure why; it just sounds unpleasant to me. I’m glad I didn’t end up a [name]Wendy[/name], especially since I almost never go by my full name.

Also, not sure if this matters to you, but [name]Gwendolyn[/name] is pretty much impossible for most non-english speakers to pronounce. The other day a (Hispanic?) cashier took a look at my ID and just laughed.

That said, I quite like my name, and the [name]Gwendolen[/name] spelling is equally nice.

I agree with that [name]Gwendolyn[/name] [name]Frost[/name] is just insanely pretty, it makes me think of a frosty field in the moonlight (some say the meaning of [name]Gwendolen[/name] “white ring” is a reference to the moon.). [name]Frostine[/name] is cool too, it’s a fun middle name, but the first thing I thought of was [name]Queen[/name] [name]Frostine[/name] from [name]Candy[/name] [name]Land[/name]… plus it sounds a bit like frosting.

Thank you so much everyone! This feedback really helps me!

I understand where you come from with [name]Frost[/name], over [name]Frostine[/name]. And I do like it, certainly it’s what drove me to [name]Frostine[/name] in the first place. I agree it is pretty, particularly paired with [name]Gwendolyn[/name] But, like geeknamezyo said, the 3-2 syllables is something I love, I think I may have a tendancy for mouthful-names… That being said, I am warming up to [name]Gwendolyn[/name] [name]Frost[/name] as I go back and read your comments.

Everyone has their own opinions, which is why I created this thread so I could see the views of others, and I knew prior to posting it that not everyone was going to see my appeal to the name. Thank you, jess0044 and east93, for those opposing views not only to [name]Frostine[/name] but [name]Gwendolyn[/name] too.

Thank you geeknamezyo for bringing my attention to your opinion on nicknames as well as foreign pronounciation. I will certainly keep both in mind, but I fear [name]Gwendolyn[/name] will be a name I shan’t be persuaded from.

And thank you lovewn, the imagery in your post is most probably what has heated me up to [name]Frost[/name], and your mention to frosting has definatley got me thinking of the similarity.

I’ll certainly be taking some of these opinions into consideration in the future.
