It’s been 3 months & six days since [name]Elijah[/name] was born! We are so glad to have him in our family! [name]Even[/name] though it is far away, does anyone have an idea for a 1st birthday party theme? I like to plan things like this in advance, especially now that I have little [name]Elijah[/name], who can be a hand-ful! Also, where do you buy your son’s clothing? [name]Elijah[/name] has a lot from Gap & Target, what are some other good places ? Thank-you
And I thought I was bad for starting my planning around 7 months… ;-). We did a surfer luau for our little dude. I love that the Hawaiian/[name]Pacific[/name] Rim tradition is to celebrate the first year with a huge party. In the past it was a thanksgiving celebration that the child had survived its first year. We didn’t do the huge blowout party, but we did do a casual luau to give thanks to God for blessing us with a happy, healthy child… And that mommy and daddy survived the first year! We have a summer bday, so that theme worked well for us. Other ideas I’d come up with included: train theme (make train cars from diaper boxes for the babies to play in… And saw super cute/cheap conductor hats at the party store); rubber duckies; or theme based off of the game UNO.
As for clothes, Walmart has decent baby basics. I got some really cute hooded sweatshirts there last fall for only a few dollars each and they held up all winter. Kohls has fantastic sales on baby clothes. And so does [name]Carter[/name]'s, if you have one of those around you. Also, check [name]Macy[/name]'s from time to time… I hit an online sale there last year that was around 75% off.
Congratulations, and good luck! They grow up so fast!!
Thanks, #spunkiedoodle! I think the surfer luau is such a creative & cool idea! Mind if I steal? Haha, and don’t consider yourself crazy for things like that-- I’m way worse!!
I would go incredibly simple for the first birthday. The children get overwhelmed and cranky quite easily since birthdays are a bit crazy. There’s nothing like a cranky baby on their own birthday. You have years and years to do the crazy themed birthdays.

second hand/consignment stores can be great - since young kids are not in their clothes for very long, everything is in great shape

walmart - for basics

Steal away! I did everything ahead of time (including food), so the party itself was simple. I agree with the above post… Make the party easy so you and your kid will actually enjoy it! If you want more details/ideas, you can private message me. Have fun!
I make and sell birthday cakes, and a very common/cute theme I get orders for are Safari cakes. Lots of animals and all that. They always turn out to be very cute parties. Also winnie the pooh or baby mickey and friends always turn out cute. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of a “smash cake” but it’s a smaller cake decorate the same way for the guest of honor to smash up and get all messy and have fun with, without ruining the actual cake. It’s a great photo opt that I’d suggest
As for clothes, walmart has great affordable and durable clothes.
put a popsicle stick up a banana then dip in chocolate = banana pops. Use plastic cups and fill with pre cut carrot and celery sticks, put salad dressing at the bottom. Meatballs and sauce. [name]Mini[/name] Quiche. [name]Don[/name]'t forget, it’s more snacky food for the kids.
