Tiberius and other ancient Roman names

I am having a little boy in [name_u]November[/name_u] and we are going over our boys’ list. [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] is a favorite of ours. We love ancient [name_m]Roman[/name_m] names. Other names we are considering include [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m].

I am very curious as to what other people think of these names. Our first son’s name is [name_m]Luther[/name_m] and we tend to like names that are uncommon and underused, although not unheard of.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think these names are usable (I live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f])? Should they be put away as guilty pleasure names? [name_m]Will[/name_m] our child stand out like a sore thumb as he is surrounded by Noahs, Aidens and Liams? [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] in particular concerns me.

Thanks!

I really like [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m]. I wanted to use it fora middle but never had a boy. I say go for it. It’s not awful and though he may stand out i don’t think it will be in a bad way.

I think [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] would stand out. I like it though I would probably use it as a mn. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], it’s on my short list and so is [name_m]Luther[/name_m].

[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] means you could go with nn [name_m]Ty[/name_m], if you wanted, which is common enough to blend in more.

I personally don’t like ancient [name_m]Roman[/name_m] names as first names. I find they usually sound either a bit cheesy or forced. I do like names like [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] that have that connection to ancient [name_m]Rome[/name_m], but have been used enough that it doesn’t sound like you were picking out names from a history book.

That’s awesome. [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] is a top contender for us. We really like it. [name_m]Luther[/name_m] is so underused. I think it’s great name and I would love to see it increase in popularity a bit. It suits my son.
