Thoughts on [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] for a girls name?
Forgot to mention we don’t want to use a formal first name then call her [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] for short, [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] would be her actual first name.
I love [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] as a nickname but I’m not sold on it as a first name. I think that as the baby grows into an adult, it could be hard to sound mature or serious on things like interviews and job applications, etc. with [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] as a first name. It sounds a bit too young. Why not a formal first if I may ask?
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is the obvious choice for a formal first name, but you could always go with:
[name_f]Chantille[/name_f]
[name_f]Chantilly[/name_f] (like the lace)
[name_f]Clotilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Letitia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucretia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Tilda[/name_f] (losing the “ie” sound matures this name and yet it’s still very close to [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] which you love so much)
I think it’s fine as a full name. I’ve only ever met two people whose full name is [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]/[name_f]Tilly[/name_f]; a 3yo and a 20 something yo.
I disagree with pp, I don’t think [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] sounds too informal or immature. There are plenty of adults named [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and they do just fine in the real world ;).
I honestly prefer [name_f]Millie[/name_f] myself, but [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] is a sweet choice with a pleasant sound.
I think [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] as a first, given name works fine! There are adults named [name_u]Nikki[/name_u], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_u]Billy[/name_u], [name_u]Willie[/name_u]… It works!
I think it’s fine as a full name, though too cutesy/nicknamey for my taste.
It’s definitely nicknamey, but not as cutesy as some.
I think it could work, especially if your last name is sophisticated sounding.
I actually quite like [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] as a name, and have considered it myself in the past. I’ve only ever met one person called [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], and she was probably in her 50s-60s? So, I don’t think it’s a name that’s too “cutesy” like some names that are floating around. I think it could work.
[name_f]Tillie[/name_f] sounds perfect. I feel like formal names are just a preference not a requirement.
I like [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]. Why not use [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]? I have not met any young adults named [name_f]Tillie[/name_f], but I am sure that one day I will. A man I went to school with, named his daughter Tillia, which is a type of tree, and I have yet to meet someone who has not liked that name. Truthfully I don’t like any of the longer versions of [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] ([name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Chantilly[/name_f], ect). But for some reason [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] or Tillia sounds pleasant to my ears.
Which spelling of [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]?..[name_f]Tilli[/name_f], Tilley, [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Tillie[/name_f], Tillee,…
[name_f]Tillie[/name_f].
or [name_f]Tilly[/name_f].
But I prefer [name_f]Tillie[/name_f].
All the others are no-go in my book.
I like it as part of a double first name, like [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] is the only spelling that I like but if that isn’t an option, [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] is second best. I wouldn’t go with anything else.
I once knew a girl called [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], she is probably about 17 now. As far as I’m aware it was her full name. She was a really nice and friendly girl and I have always loved the name [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] because of it.
I’m not a big fan of nicknames (for instance, calling baby [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] to get to [name_f]Tillie[/name_f], but never actually using [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]).
I think [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] works by itself, particularly if you’re only going to call her by it.
(I hope this makes sense. I’ve read it three times now but I’m so tired and I’m not even sure anymore.)
I definitely prefer the spelling [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] - probably because I know someone with the name (23yo) but [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] is also nice. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name in general!
It definitely works as just a first name ([name_f]Tilly[/name_f] was top 100 in [name_f]England[/name_f] for a few years) juts spell it either [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] or [name_f]Tillie[/name_f].
[name_u]Love[/name_u] love love [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]. I think it works great as a stand alone name. It’s on my short list.
I think it’s adorable!
