Time capsule quiz

[name_f]Happy[/name_f] [name_m]New[/name_m] Year! Here’s to another twelve months of passionately thinking about names! :tada:

[name_f][/name_f]

I thought it would be fun to answer a few questions to revisit at the end of the year. You can answer as many as you’d like, come up with any of your own, or pop in throughout the year.

  8. [name_f][/name_f]
  9. I’m struggling with finding a nickname I like for [name_f]Duniya[/name_f], and struggling with choosing between all the wonderful full-name options there are for Shamsi and [name_f]Sama[/name_f]!
  10. [name_f][/name_f]
  11. I predict my list will keep on growing in the coming year, and I can specifically see myself adding a lot of new Armenian names as I learn about the language.
  12. [name_f][/name_f]
  13. In my country, I can see short-and-sweet names dominating the charts, as well as a rise in names that work well in both [name_f]English[/name_f] and Spanish!

  14. [name_f][/name_f]
  15. No, one of my name rules is that my names have to have nicknames
  16. [name_f][/name_f]
  17. Since joining NB, I have become and am becoming more open to uncommon names so I think that will be reflected in my list

  3. Phoebe, Moon, Romy, Ottilie, Sylvie, Anouk, Cleo. Eloise, Colette
Theodore “Teddy”, Ara, Elio, Ari, Eden, Sage, July, Teddy, Kit
  4. Long list: Apolline Short list: Ozzie (b)
  5. Oliver and August just left my shortlist for boys! Oliver after 14 years. I think Moon and Sylvie may be making an exit soon. I love both, but am hearing Sylvie way too much and I don’t know that I love it enough to not let that bother me. I adore Moon, but I just don’t know that I see it as my daughters name anymore.
  6. Diana (surprising!), Odette, Apolline
  7. I always struggle with Theodore! I love August, but it’s my top middle for Elio as well
  8. No! I generally am not of the opinion nicknames need full names and I tend to like shorter names anyway
  9. Anouk and Cleo are trying to climb up the list right now! I can see them ranking higher later this year. As I mentioned in a previous answer, Moon and Sylvie may be getting off the short list and rejoining the long list. I can see maybe getting a few additions to my short list this year to boys/girls!
  10. Short and sweet seems to be on the rise - sucks for me, that’s my vibe :joy:

How would you describe your naming style?
[name_f][/name_f]Quirky ecclectic vintage with some outliers? There are very different categories on my lists. The main three for each are probably Boys: timeless classic, cozy grandpa, fantasy prince and Girls: sassy old lady, vampire princess, soft graceful underused classics.

Are there any names that are on the cusp of entering your list?
    [name_f][/name_f]I was actually thinking about making a post about this because I’ve had a weirdly high amount of them floating around lately. Off the top of my head: [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Joy[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_f]Millicent[/name_f], [name_m]Benedict[/name_m]

    [name_f][/name_f]
  8. [name_f][/name_f]
  9. [name_f][/name_f]

Are there any names that are on the cusp of leaving your list?
[name_f][/name_f]Not leaving but a few that have fallen a bit are [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_f]Josie[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], and possibly [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] are being moved down the list due to people I know, not personal taste.

  10. [name_f][/name_f]
  11. [name_f][/name_f]

What are your current name crushes?
    [name_f][/name_f]I’ve been really digging [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Violetta[/name_f] “Lottie”, [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] “Hattie”, [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], and [name_m]Peter[/name_m] lately.

    [name_f][/name_f]
  12. [name_f][/name_f]
  13. [name_f][/name_f]

Are there any names you’re struggling to find a combo for?
[name_f][/name_f]TBD? I’ve been trying to make an official list of combos off and on for like a year and have still not actually finished that project.

    [name_f][/name_f]
  14. [name_f][/name_f]
  15. [name_f][/name_f]

Are there any nicknames you’re struggling to find a full name for, or vice versa?
[name_f][/name_f]I’ve recently needed to find a new nickname for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and settled on [name_f]Effie[/name_f] which is great on paper but I’m still not 100% sure about it in practice. I feel similarly unsure about [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] for [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] and [name_f]Beth[/name_f] for [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]. [name_m]Freddie[/name_m] (b) is also being difficult, [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] isn’t feeling quite right anymore and I do like [name_m]Freddie[/name_m] by itself but it doesn’t really fit my list as a full name. I’ve had to give up on a full name for [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and just accept that my girl’s top 20 just has one single name that isn’t a long full name with a nickname. I haven’t settled on a full name for [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], I’m between [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f].

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any predictions for your own list? (change in ranks, style, feelings, opinions, etc.)
[name_f][/name_f]The exact order of my lists will definitely shift around some. Generally the top half and bottom half will probably stay in their respective halves but a few surprises will probably rocket up into top 10-20 status. I can’t quite describe it, but the batch of newcomers I’m considering have a different flavor than my current list. Technically, they’re all the same style but something is different about them so depending on how many of those stick around the vibe of my list might shift.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any name predictions for Nameberry or the outside world? (trends, ranks, etc.)
[name_f][/name_f]~ [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is here to stay for at least a few more years so all the related names will go up in the charts. I don’t think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] will actually jump multiple spots and breach the top 10 but it’ll be close.
[name_f][/name_f]~ [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] will go up and break the top 20.
[name_f][/name_f]~ Vowel endings for boys will continue to be popular with a particular rise in -i endings.
[name_f][/name_f]~ [name_m]Sharp[/name_m] pointy letters will continue trending, especially Z.
[name_f][/name_f]~ A new batch of crusty vintage names will start having their comeback and climb the charts (Sybil, [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Lois[/name_f], [name_f]Beverly[/name_f], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], etc.).

If you were to name a baby now, what would you call them?
Lachlan Jack William Morgan

How would you describe your naming style?
Celtic is always my first choice, but I’m liking more surf/beachy names too.

What are your top 5/10 names? (collectively or by gender)
Boy: Lachlan, Cian, Declan, Ciaran Nolan
Girl: Aoife, Orla, Saoirse, Oona, Saylor

Are there any names that are on the cusp of entering your list?
More gender-neutral names for girls, (e.g. Drew, Scottie, Andie etc.)

Are there any names that are on the cusp of leaving your list?
Ones that don’t go with my married last name, (e.g. Logan, Nolan etc.)

What are your current name crushes?
Boy: Caolán, Tadhg, Cove (“Co-vee”), Zealand
Girl: Gráinne, Harbour, Eliza, Olive

Are there any names you’re struggling to find a combo for?
A sibling to go with brother Ellis & sister Aoife. I just feel like Ellis is a soft boy name because it’s also considered gender-neutral, that having such a heavily feminine girl name, that maybe even they don’t go together?

Are there any nicknames you’re struggling to find a full name for, or vice versa?
Mollie or Maggie. I don’t like Marigold for the nn Maggie, and I guess I am considering Margaret only because it’s the name of a place I adore. But I cannot for the life of me think of a full name for Mollie.

Do you have any predictions for your own list? (change in ranks, style, feelings, opinions, etc.)
I used to sway towards nature names, but the trends these days is making it less and less likely I’ll pick one, at least for a first name. I guess we’re all just trying to pick a name that will stand out, whether it sound crazy or not.

Do you have any name predictions for Nameberry or the outside world? (trends, ranks, etc.)
I think a lot of Rock and Gemstone names might come back into play, (e.g. Slate, Stone, Ruby, Emerald etc.)

[name_f][/name_f]For Nameberry: There’s always an inevitable new crop of word names – curious to see what will reign supreme!
[name_f][/name_f]For the outside world: I think names that work in multiple languages will continue to increase in popularity. For the US specifically, I expect to see popular choices in Spanish-speaking communities continue to rise (a la Mateo).

  7. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] isn’t a new enter, but I can see him reintegrating himself into my top five. Likely [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] will continue to grow as a favorite.

If you were to name a baby now, what would you call them?

[name_f][/name_f]

I have a few names I feel I’d be most likely to use ~ [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]River[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] son has two middles so I’m pretty sure I’d want to continue that. [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]River[/name_m] is very likely. [name_f]Fem[/name_f] names are more of an unknown. I’m always pairing hypothetical names with [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] and I haven’t fallen in love with any. I’m not having any more children but I’d still like to find that magical combination!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Marianne[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Jo[/name_f], is what I would choose today.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any name predictions for Nameberry or the outside world? (trends, ranks, etc.)

[name_f][/name_f]

Nothing new, but if [name_m]Cove[/name_m] takes off, I wonder if Covie might follow in the future. This would combine the new nature word names/names that are cute and immediately fit a baby. Other examples of this trend combo could be [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] and Brooksy.
