Time to Revive: "I" Names

You are right! Despite me being an [name_f]English[/name_f] teacher, I am terrible at writing out pronunciations and I think it is said eye-REEN!

[name_f]My[/name_f] eighth graders and I just finished reading [name_f]Antigone[/name_f] today and I find it mars the perfection of [name_f]Ismene[/name_f] a tad because I don’t like the character. Still, what a name!

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Imogene[/name_f], [name_f]Ines[/name_f], Ibelis, [name_u]Isa[/name_u], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_f]Isola[/name_f], and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]!

I’d especially love for [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] to be used more!

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is also very pretty but very popular :yellow_heart:

Ibelis - I’ve never heard that!

I don’t think I’ve been fond of too many i names, at least not for girls.

I do like [name_u]Ira[/name_u], for both sexes, and the less familiar [name_f]Iva[/name_f]. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] has a similar sound.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] is sweet, but has been revived for a while! The similar [name_f]Isis[/name_f] sounds lovely, but isn’t usable in a lot of areas due to unfortunate associations.

I taught a little [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] once, which was cute, and fit her well.

I prefer [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] to [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. I can’t think of any others, much to my disappointment.

It’s a rare Latin American variant of Yvelise! I just think it’s gorgeous

[name_f]Irene[/name_f] IS pretty and underused (and underappreciated). Noting it down! I really like [name_f]Ione[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. [name_f]Illyria[/name_f] looks and sounds beautiful, like a protagonist’s name. [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] seem and feel overused for sure, very mid-2000s… Although they are beautiful and that’s probably the main reason they are overused in the first place. I met a baby [name_f]Isis[/name_f] the other day, what a strong and striking name!

[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] seems quite rare in US: only 27 in 2013. I’m thinking you live in [name_u]England[/name_u] or ?

I actually live in [name_u]South[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] (Brazil) currently. And I’ve sadly never been to [name_u]England[/name_u]!

Any country that uses [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is good with me!

The ones I know are teenagers and up. Several of them actually! It’s funny that.
