I have fallen hard for the name [name_f]Luella[/name_f] and I’m finding that I really want to honor a particular person who is of great importance to us. He passed this last fall. He was a great big-hearted scottish fisherman in [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] so I’ve zeroed in on Scottish-related names, water-related names and his initials as ways to explore mn possibilities.
So let me know which of these combinations you like best or least. Further suggestions greatly appreciated as well!
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Venezia[/name_f] – feminization of, and Italian for, his middle name, [name_f]Venice[/name_f] (he always included his full middle name. Think he enjoyed the romance of it). veh-NETZ-ee-uh. His given name does not fem up very well.
Others by way of initials:
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_u]Valo[/name_u] – VAHL-oh, Finnish word for “light”.
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_m]Vine[/name_m] – also, the vine has wonderful celtic symbology.
Scottish (some of these are a leap, as many scottish gaelic names don’t sound quite right [name_f]IMO[/name_f], would love some other name suggestions here particularly!!):
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_u]Fionn[/name_u] – “[name_u]Finn[/name_u]”
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] Acair – Scottish Gaelic for “[name_m]Anchor[/name_m]”, difficult to say properly: [name_m]AH[/name_m]’-gehr with a soft ‘r’. Like better in theory and clashes with last name a little.
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_u]Skye[/name_u] – Scottish place name, [name_f]Isle[/name_f] of [name_u]Skye[/name_u]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] – significant in celtic culture, bird of prophecy according to the druids
Water names:
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_u]Ren[/name_u] – Japanese “water lily”, feel like “wren” provides dual purpose here.
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Maris[/name_f] – Latin, “of the sea” (fem gen for of this is mara in scottish gaelic)
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] – nickname [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] also means pearl
“[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]” Names:
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] – due date is in [name_f]May[/name_f] too.
And in my search for water names I came across Aysu which is Turkish for “moon water” and is a female name. I thought it so lovely I had to share.
Thank you so much!
