To out there? Might seem more Dolly Parton?

So, I have put my favorite name out there once and got bad replys! I knew that was going to happen!:-? so here’s the name…

[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]
I didn’t want the [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] part to honor [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] but, to actually sound more masculine in a feminine way. I was hoping that the other berries would see that! Tell me what you think now!

[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is nice but it is a bit too nicknamed for me, I prefer [name_f]Adelheid[/name_f]/[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is just not my thing. In general, [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is a fine name.

I like [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] just fine. It reminds me of the book, but it isn’t an overpowering or negative association. [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] doesn’t sound at all masculine to me. And I can only hear [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] singing it.

[name_f]Jolene[/name_f], [name_f]Jolene[/name_f], [name_f]Jolene[/name_f], [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
[name_f]Jolene[/name_f], [name_f]Jolene[/name_f], [name_f]Jolene[/name_f], [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]
Please don’t take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green

Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]

He talks about you in his sleep
There’s nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]

I actually like [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] (I like the [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] song too lol) but I like it to tone down an ultra-feminine first name, I have it on my list as a potential MN … [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is feminine enough to benefit from a more masculine middle name, I actually think [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] needs something more feminine to soften it. :} [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]!!! And I’ve never met a [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] I didn’t like. I think it’s a cute, spunky combo.

Lol, I just someone was gonna put the lyrics on here!

Ha ha ha! I’m sorry! Her peers would be unlikely to know the song, but their older family members will likely break out into spontaneous song as well on hearing it. [name_m]How[/name_m] can you not with such an iconic piece?

The comparison sunflowerist makes between [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] and [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is an interesting one. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] makes the middle name stand on it’s own so the name is distinctive. [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] softens it so much that it is like a flowing river where you don’t notice the middle name on it’s own. Neither is right or wrong, good or bad, but it might be why I can’t help but hear the song with [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] when it isn’t such a strong association with Luelle [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]. I even say the latter with more of a zho sound than a hard [name_m]Joe[/name_m] like I do with [name_f]Heidi[/name_f].

Neither name is my style. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is too cutesy and I don’t think it ages well beyond childhood. [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is a modern invention and sounds very country and western (even before the [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] song). But hey, if YOU love the name, that’s all that matters.

I really like it. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is just lovely, and [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is an excellent way to honour [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] (I’m pretty much on board with finding a way to name children after anything that’s special to you).

I think the negative feedback you’re getting is probably because it’s just not to other people’s tastes - and that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with the name itself, I actually love [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is a lovely name

You are very right with the “zho” softened [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] with [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] which may be why I like it there in particular… I did not really realize that even thanks for pointing it out, gets me thinking!!

I do like both names, and they have a nice flow together. I just feel they are very mismatched.

Hey, honesty is the best policy!

I still love the names [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]

Neither are my style. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] Klum and [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is very country/western, perhaps due to the song. Really not my taste and they do seem quite mismatched.

[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is [name_m]WAY[/name_m] better imo. I like [name_f]Jolene[/name_f], but it isn’t something you can pair with any old name, you know? It needs to fit really well with the first name or it sounds… off. Really off. If I heard [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f], I would assume someone’s mom or aunt or grandma was named [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]. The possibility that someone could have chosen any two names in the whole wide world and wound up with [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] wouldn’t occur to me.

This post is really interesting to me because [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is one of my favorite names and [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is one of my least favorite. To me, [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] has a very old world feel and [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is a modern invention, which are complete opposites. I can see why you are afraid of [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] sounding too cutsie or nicknamey with something like [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but I actually find [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] to be very cutsie (I would put it in the same category as [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]). I agree with the other poster who suggested [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. I think if fits/flows better together and achieves what you are describing more effectively. But ultimately, it is what you like that matters, especially since most people would probably just know her as [name_f]Heidi[/name_f].

What about [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]?

:frowning: Darn it, no one likes the name! I just love it though!

I love [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]!! It balances [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] nicely. With [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] my biggest concern would be keeping away from first names that might make the overall effect too country: [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is perfect.
