My mom’s middle name is Jennifer, and I’d love to honor her by making it a middle name for a future daughter (to clarify, I’m several years away from even thinking about having kids). I’m also a huge fan of JRR Tolkien’s writings, but I don’t want to go the Eowyn/Arwen route, and I think Tolkien is a cool name. So Tolkien Jennifer is sort of what I’m thinking.
I know it’s sort of an odd name, so I’d probably call her either TJ or Kinny. I’d love to hear people’s thoughts on this. I don’t want to saddle a kid with an overly strange name, but I think it has the potential to be really cute.
Edit: Wow, thanks for all the prompt replies and great advice!
For me personally, I would never be brave enough to use it. Maybe for a boy? Maybe for a middle spot?
If you’re open to suggestions, Tolkien’s wife was named [name_f]Edith[/name_f], and if I remember right, she was truly the love of his life. It’s another bold choice, but a little more established.
To be honest, I don’t think Tolkien works as a name… it’s a very strong association and it doesn’t sound like a name imo. Sorry! [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] is a nice name.
I don’t think it sounds like a name. It’d be a nice middle, but that’s a lot of name to saddle on a kid. Especially if they don’t like the author, so definitely middle spot.
I think Tolkien would work better on a boy. I find [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] to be pretty dated by now, maybe you could use [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]? [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is the original form of [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], so it would still honor your mom.
i seem to be largely against the tide here, but i think tolkien is very cool and would be a wonderful name for a girl. tolkien jennifer is rather lovely.
