What is everyone’s opinion on [name]Toni[/name] for a girl?
My grandmother’s name is [name]Erika[/name] [name]Toni[/name] and my whole life we always called her Grandma [name]Toni[/name]. I would love to use it, however it still sounds masculine to me. Hubby isn’t a fan either yet.
And I can’t think of one middle name to put with it that sounds good. ([name]Erika[/name] is out for us because it is an ex-girlfriend name).
I’m not a huge fan of just [name]Toni[/name], but I think something like [name]Antonia[/name] or even [name]Tonia[/name] (I had a teacher whose FN was just [name]Tonia[/name], said like TOE-nee-ah, not like [name]Tonya[/name]/[name]Tanya[/name]…) would be nice. Especially [name]Antonia[/name].
I agree [name]Toni[/name] is too masculine for a daughter but a feminized version like [name]Antonia[/name] or [name]Antoinette[/name] would be lovely and allow for a nick name of [name]Toni[/name].
There’s a mother at the daycare where I work whose name is [name]Toni[/name]. It’s not short for anything, her name is just [name]Toni[/name].
She loves her name. She gave her daughter a masculine name too - [name]Brooklyn[/name] [name]Michael[/name] - so I think [name]Toni[/name] is perfectly usable on a girl.
I may be biased (my dad went out with a [name]Toni[/name] after he split with my mom) but I don’t have good associations to the name. But I agree with others, it’s sort of okay but I think of it more as a nickname for something better like [name]Antonia[/name].
Wow, I know in the US most people see [name]Brooklyn[/name] as feminine, but to someone in the UK where [name]Brooklyn[/name] tilts more to the boys and paired with [name]Michael[/name] would for sure make them imagine her daughter is a boy.
i knew a toni who was an antoinette. i also knew a toni-anne whose whole name was toni-anne, no mn. i think that anthea would be a beautiful choice that toni would be a good nickname for. i have a lot of anthonys in my family and always thought anthea would be a nice way to honor one. i don’t like just plain toni as a first name (for a girl or boy) but i like a lot of longer names that toni can be nickname too. antonina is pretty too.
My mom wanted to name me [name]Toni[/name] but my dad objected. I like it but would definitely use it as a nn for a longer form, my favorite being [name]Antoinette[/name]. I knew a [name]Toni[/name]-[name]Anne[/name] and an [name]Antonella[/name] though neither shortened their names. Like others have said, [name]Antonia[/name] and [name]Antonina[/name] would also work.
That’s short for [name]Antoinette[/name] though, which is objectively quite pretty I suppose, but not my style. (I’m not sure if that’s how it’s spelt though.)
