Too close?

I’m crushing so hard on [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] right now as a possibilty for baby girl number 4 but alas it’s possibly too close to my eldest daughter [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think could she work with other sisters [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] in the mix too…she has letters/syllables from all three girls names which in a way i dig but it’s the two Ma beginnings that I’m not sure about. [name_m]Or[/name_m] what about [name_f]Marcelle[/name_f] would that work any better in the set?..

[name_f][/name_f]

…also what are your thoughts on spelling Marsella/Marselle spelled with an ‘s’ rather than a ‘c’? I know ‘c’ is the traditional but I ask as I have always loved ‘selkie’ as a nickname and i thought it could work for Marselle…I know it’s a bit of a stretch but maybe with a k middle
[name_f][/name_f]eg. [name_f]Marselle[/name_f] [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] or [name_f]Marsella[/name_f] Kathleen…

[name_f][/name_f]

Or…is she better just reserved a middle name possibility … perhaps [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Marcella[/name_f]

I love your daughters’ names! They’re all so beautiful and ones I have on my own list

[name_f][/name_f]

I get what you mean with the repetitive M as I also would prefer for all my future kids’ names to have a different first initial. That said if you love the name I think that’s more important than no repetition. It’s better to chose the name you love most over one you don’t love as much

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Marselle[/name_f] and [name_f]Marsella[/name_f] are also super pretty! [name_f]My[/name_f] name is spelt differently to the norm, and I know a lot of people on here can be very against unique spellings, but I think as long as they’re something you love and they’re not such a “tradeighy” of a spelling then they’re fine

[name_f][/name_f]

I will say with the s people may think the name is pronounced Mars-elle/ella rather than Mar-cell/cella so that’s definitely something to watch (you could try going to Starbucks or somewhere like that, and using that spelling to see how people end up pronouncing it)

[name_f][/name_f]

I think [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] could work as a nickname even with the c spellings, though it’s definitely way more of a stretch! Using a K middle name could definitely help if you want to have more similarities between the names!

[name_f][/name_f]

But I think the beauty of nicknames is they don’t always have to be similar to the formal name. Take [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] for example, you have your more traditional nicknames like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and Marg, but people also do [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] / [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] / [name_m]Mars[/name_m] / even [name_m]Garnet[/name_m] I’ve heard a couple times for it! [name_m]Or[/name_m] if you ever look up all the different abbreviations for [name_m]John[/name_m] it’s absolutely crazy!

[name_f][/name_f]

I do love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but I find it very short in comparison to your daughters’ names!

[name_f][/name_f]

Sorry for the spam! But I hope something in this helps you!

I think it’s cute how this baby would have a little of every other sibling name. [name_f][/name_f] That is so cute

[name_f][/name_f]

I saw another variation with it being [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] if that is an option for you (the ending would sound similar to Delphine) [name_f]Mariella[/name_f] also is derived from the name and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], Mahryn, [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] also being with that ma sound you like

I think [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] could work [name_f][/name_f]- sounds different enough to [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] to me [name_f][/name_f]- but [name_f]Marcelle[/name_f] is also gorgeous and I like that it shares a similar ending to [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] (so then you’ve got two -a’s and two -e’s)

[name_f][/name_f]

For what it’s worth, [name_f]Marcelle[/name_f] K- [name_f][/name_f] ‘Selkie’ could still work for me [name_f][/name_f]- a bit like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] ‘Kate’ or [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] ‘Kit’ work just fine.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] is gorgeous too!

[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous, and fits wonderfully with your other girls! I think [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] & [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] could work – it definitely helps that they’d be the furthest in age from each other. [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] is such a cute nickname, and honestly she’d still work even with the “c” spelling.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] is stunning as well!

I love Marcella! I don’t think it’s too close to your eldest’s name, for me there are enough different letters/sounds that it doesn’t feel to matchy, it’s actually quite cute! I personally prefer the c spelling but the nickname selkie is adorable. Pearl Marcella is super cute too if you end up deciding it’s too matchy. :ribbon::two_hearts:

[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are similar, but they’re different enough to work, and since there’s two other sisters in the set, I think it would be fine! However, I would probably use [name_f]Marcelle[/name_f], since it doesn’t end in an -a like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and also ties [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] better into the set!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Selkie[/name_f] could probably still work with either spelling-the sounds are all there!

Oh [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] is so lovely! [name_f][/name_f] I do like [name_f]Marcella[/name_f], she does feel a little similar to [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] but I think depending on Matilda’s nickname, it might work in certain cases. [name_f][/name_f] I don’t think I’d do [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] if they’d be [name_f]Mattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Marcy[/name_f] or something like that, but I think [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] or [name_f]Marcelle[/name_f] could work.

[name_f][/name_f]

I do like the variant spelling Marsela but I don’t think you have to use the S to get to [name_f]Selkie[/name_f]? [name_f][/name_f] I think any spelling would be fine since the sound is there. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] would be lovely, although I do find I like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] most from your options. [name_f][/name_f] I’m a big sucker for [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] with a very feminine, elaborate middle.

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck!

I would go with Marcelle so you have two “a” endings and two “e” endings rather than three “a” and Delphine as the odd one out. I love the idea of Marcelle Katherine with the nn Selkie- I think that’s really sweet.

[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] don’t seem too similar for sisters, in my opinion. While they share the same letters in the beginning, their sounds are distinct enough to set them apart easily. I’ve come across several sibling sets where shared initials work quite well. The closest example to your case is a pair of sisters named [name_f]Mathilde[/name_f] and [name_f]Martha[/name_f]. Honestly, [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] feel even more distinct, so I believe they can work together, especially with the other two girls breaking the pattern. I generally prefer to avoid repeated initials, however, if [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] is the name you truly love, I think that detail becomes insignificant.

[name_f][/name_f]

Regarding the spelling, I wouldn’t change it. [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] is a wonderful nickname for [name_f]Marcella[/name_f]! The absent “S” is present in the pronunciation. In my opinion, nicknames should be fun and creative. If [name_f]Billie[/name_f] can cross generations as a top nickname for [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] can definitely accompany [name_f]Marcella[/name_f]. What matters the most is the connection to the name’s sound, not its exact letters.

[name_f][/name_f]

I also adore [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! It’s a beautiful, timeless name. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would fit well in your sibling set! Unfortunately, [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] doesn’t have the best flow. But, perhaps, [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] nn [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] is the perfect choice for your little girl?

[name_f][/name_f]

adding -ka to name often makes it a nickname in Balkans, but sometimes, adding k to end of a name made it separate name. For example, [name_f]Anka[/name_f] is nickname to [name_f]Ana[/name_f], but sometimes, some names with -ka ending are just female version of male name or variations, like Davorka (from Davor) or Jelka (very old variation of Jelena)
[name_f][/name_f]So to me, selkie as nickname to Marcelle/Marselle isn’t weird… but I think Marcelle/Marcella is too similar to [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

I think I have previously said how beautiful your girls names are but had to reiterate and say how beautiful your girls names are!

[name_f][/name_f]

Onto [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] completely see the appeal in this name she’s unexpected, whimsy, romantic and elegant. However for me [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] is too similar too [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. I’m not majorly keen on repeated initials within sibling sets either and I do not feel the other girls names separate [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] & M@tild@ enough.

[name_f][/name_f]

Anyways moving onto [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] she’s perfection. I love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] she’s such a timeless classic with pretty gemstone connotation that feels distinctive within your sibling set which I like. [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] makes a bold, absolutely beautiful middle name. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]!

Thank you so much for the feedback everyone. So interesting to get some different perspectives to mine. I will keep Marcellle/Marcella (the c spelling) on my seemingly ever growing list along with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Marcella[/name_f].

I’m going to add [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] nn [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] to the list…because I love the ocean connection between [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] and why not?!
