[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,
[name_m]Just[/name_m] want to get your thoughts on [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] as brothers? I would really prefer to have different initials and dislike anything overly cutesy but we are down to very few names when it comes to boys! There are other siblings with different initials however they are girls.
I think itâs fine. To me itâs not really cutesy, but it is normal.
My cousinâs girlsâ names both begin with K and their brother starts with B. Also, my mom and her siblings are split. Her oldest brother and sister (kids 1 & 2) both start with K with no nicknames. [name_f]My[/name_f] momâs other brother and she (kids 3 & 4) start with R & B, respectively, with nicknames that start with B and sound alike.
I think itâs fine since [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] have different beginning sounds ([name_m]Tom[/name_m]-iss and Thee-oh-dore)
If you were naming twins, I might say keep looking to avoid matching initials. But for âjustâ siblings I donât think it matters. I know lots of sibsets where they have a repeating letter between two - itâs fine. Itâs only cutesy if you were to have a 3rd and name him [name_u]Timothy[/name_u] or something.
I understand wanting different initials because Iâm the same way. But, if you really love the name, I think thatâs more important. If there are no other names that you love as much, you will end up regretting not using it if you go with something else.
I think itâs absolutely fine! [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] or [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] would make a great sibset. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u] might be too much.
Completely different starting and endings sounds so I think itâs totally fine. Plus I feel like sometimes people have different styles for boys and girls and names often follow different patterns in a sibset
(For what itâs worth, my sister and I both have M names which end in the same sound, as well as the same middle initial-which happen to be our dadâs initials as well- and weâve survived into adulthood unscathed, as have the other two siblings)
Now, [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] pretty much tops out on the cutesy meter (but I love it!).
[name_f]My[/name_f] boys are both Bs. While it hasnât been a long time yet (weâre only 8 months into our second B), nobody has brought it up or pointed out the recurring letter.
I usually prefer to not go with shared initials too but really I do think that [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] are fairly distinct and not too cutesy of a pairing. [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] lean more into the matchy/cutesy thing but I donât mind somewhat matchy nicknames too much and theyâre avoidable/not a requirement. So if you get down to the wire and there really arenât other names you like more, Iâd say itâs fine.
You could also do one as a middle name to avoid the matching initials.
I think theyâre great together! Solid, traditional, timeless names that are in no way cutesy, even taking into account the fact that they both start with T. As others have said, the starting sounds are different even though the letters are the same.
I think theyâre very handsome, individually and for brothers
I think it is the [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] thing that worries me a bit as our [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is already a [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is one of the reasons I like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].
