Too Disney?

My husband and I are throwing around ideas for if we have a second daughter. I love the name [name_f]Nala[/name_f]. I think it’s beautiful, but I am concerned that you possibly can not hear that name without immediate association with The [name_m]Lion[/name_m] [name_m]King[/name_m]. It seems tied to that movie in a way that [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] and [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] don’t seem to be tied to their respective movies. I don’t want the movie association to overshadow the loveliness of the name … and I expect a girl might get tired of people reminding her about it.

So is this wearable or should I strike this from my list of possibilities?

I love [name_f]Nala[/name_f]!

[name_f]Nala[/name_f] has a lovely sound, but I know several pets with this name and find it difficult to separate it from an animal (pet or [name_m]Lion[/name_m] [name_m]King[/name_m]).

You could consider going with [name_f]Anala[/name_f] or [name_f]Nahla[/name_f] (different name with different meaning). I prefer the [name_f]Nala[/name_f] spelling to [name_f]Nahla[/name_f] aesthetically, but the difference may be enough to separate from the movie.

I personally love the name [name_f]Calla[/name_f], similar sound but reference to the flower instead.

I do feel like it is. What about [name_f]Nyla[/name_f]?

It is a common name for cats and dogs, but I personally don’t mind that. I don’t think that aspect should be embarrassing, but then I’m a huge animal lover and my flock of animals all have names that you would find on a person too.

I think it’s pretty! Although I do admit that I think of [name_m]Lion[/name_m] [name_m]King[/name_m] when I first hear it.
I don’t think that’s an issue though. There are so many names that refer to kids movies or shows.
I like a previous suggestion of spelling it differently, [name_f]Nahla[/name_f] or Nalah, if you do want to change it up a bit?

I honestly didn’t make that association when I saw the name. If you like it go for it. I’ve met people called mowgali and [name_m]Tarzan[/name_m] before plus names like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] are popular now and they are like princess name associations so I wouldn’t worry. . I think it’s cool to be honest. I did meet someone recently called [name_f]Nula[/name_f] which is think is gorgeous and very similar to [name_f]Nala[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Nala[/name_f]. Would be thrilled to meet a girl called this. I admit I think about [name_m]Lion[/name_m] [name_m]King[/name_m], but I think it’s still perfectly usable.

It does make me think of the movie, but I don’t think it’s too Disney to actually be wearable. [name_f]Nala[/name_f] is lovely!
