My other half and I are having a baby boy, and I’m an excited Daddy:D So we were considering boy names, I had a few in mind, but wanted to see if they sounded very/too feminine for a boy to have.
My last name is long, so I favor shorter names. I wasn’t sure if two first names plus my last name was a little too much to say. So are these a little too feminine for a little boy/ eventual teenager/ grown man to have. Would you find these to be attractive names, and do they flow easily when you say them? Thanks everyone
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] is the only one of your list that I think of as a girl’s name as it is usually a nickname for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. My favourite with your last name is [name_u]Shea[/name_u]. [name_u]Shea[/name_u] H0llingsw0rth is a handsome name!
I don’t think any of them are too feminine. I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on a boy, and it’s also a traditional nickname for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]. I’m not sure I like the double first name with a long last name.
My favorites from your list are [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u].
I think they’re all firmly in the boy camp. I like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] Hollingsworth. I’m gonna suggest based on your style the name [name_m]Bill[/name_m] [name_u]Chase[/name_u] Hollingsworth
Not too feminine at all! I like [name_u]Kit[/name_u], and knew a Kitson who went by [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on occasion (I also love [name_m]Kipp[/name_m]!). With [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_u]Shea[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u], you might encounter the odd girl with those names but that doesn’t mean the name itself is too feminine.
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_u]Shay[/name_u] feel feminine to me. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is a popular American Girl [name_m]Doll[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Jon[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u]. Other short names:
[name_u]Shea[/name_u] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] are names that I see more on a girl than on a boy. I love [name_m]Jon[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] from your list! (Although I prefer [name_m]John[/name_m] )
Of the names you listed, I like [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u]. Those are great boy names if you ask me, there’s nothing even remotely girly about them.
[name_u]Shea[/name_u] seems feminine to me, but if you spell it [name_u]Shay[/name_u] instead, it looks more masculine. I’ve met two people with this name: a [name_u]Shea[/name_u] (girl) and a [name_u]Shay[/name_u] (boy). So to me, it’s one of those unisex sound, gendered spelling names.
I’ve only ever met one [name_u]Chandler[/name_u] and one [name_u]Rory[/name_u], and they were both boys, though I have heard of them being used sparingly on girls. I think “Most likely a boy, but could be a girl.” when I hear them.
I automatically think girl when I see [name_u]Shea[/name_u] because my sister’s name is [name_u]Shea[/name_u] and there is a tv reporter here where I live that is a girl named [name_u]Shea[/name_u]. I don’t think of [name_u]August[/name_u] as a girl and I think that would be a great name!
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u] are great! [name_m]Jon[/name_m] is nice, too, though it might get misspelled a lot?! [name_u]Shea[/name_u] is the only one I’m not too fond of, but that’s simply a personal opinion.
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] Hollingsworth is fantastic and definitely my favourite of your ideas!
The only one that seems feminine to me is [name_u]Shea[/name_u], but if you spelled it [name_u]Shay[/name_u] it would seem more unisex. I’m suprised so any people think of [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as feminine cause I would automatically assume it was short for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]. The prince in the new [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] movie is called [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and that would be my first association in meeting a little [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. I only know female [name_u]Chandler[/name_u]'s but the name is so masculine to me I would still assume a [name_u]Chandler[/name_u] is most likely a boy. My favorites frm your list are [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_m]Jon[/name_m].
[name_u]Shea[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u] are two of my favorite boys names! I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] sounds especially nice with your last name though!
Plus I don’t think of [name_u]Kit[/name_u] being feminine at all - my first association is the actor [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_m]Harrington[/name_m].
I love [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_u]Shea[/name_u]. I knew a [name_u]Shea[/name_u] in college and the name worked well for him. [name_u]August[/name_u] is all boy to me. Some other short names:
For me [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_m]Jon[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u] are totally boys names. [name_u]Shea[/name_u], I would associate it more with girl names but I know of men named [name_u]Shay[/name_u] like youtube’s [name_u]Shay[/name_u] [name_m]Carl[/name_m] that goes by his two first names, so if you are set on using [name_u]Shea[/name_u], pick a middle that can be used as an alternative.
Yes, [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is totally a boy name to me, too. I’ve known boy Kits and of course there’s [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_m]Harrington[/name_m] (the British actor), [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_u]Carson[/name_u] and [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] “[name_u]Kit[/name_u]” [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]. I automatically assume it’s a nickname for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]. I love it (it was on our list, too). In fact, I like all the names on your list and the only one that seems feminine to me is [name_u]Shea[/name_u] (I know boys who are named this but for some reason it has always looked and sounded feminine to me). I’m just not really a fan of it for either gender but that’s just totally personal taste.
I know I’ve already answered but I just wanted to add that I’ve met two [name_u]Shay[/name_u]/Sheas in my life. One is an older woman, in her 30’s(?) who spells it [name_u]Shay[/name_u], and the other is a younger guy (early twenties) that goes by [name_u]Shea[/name_u]. I don’t think of it as being very feminine at all.
edited to add - What about [name_m]Seamus[/name_m]? If you still think [name_u]Shea[/name_u]/[name_u]Shay[/name_u] might be too feminine, [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] is a great name with the same sound and you could always shorten it up and use [name_u]Shea[/name_u] as a nickname.
All good options! The only ones that seem a bit feminine to me are [name_u]Shea[/name_u] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but if I met a guy with either of those names I wouldn’t think anything of it. I especially love [name_m]Jon[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] though
I love [name_u]August[/name_u] and I don’t think it’s girly at all- you should definitely use it. [name_m]Jon[/name_m] is fine, too. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_u]Shea[/name_u] are a little girlish, but I think they’re fine. It’s nowhere near as girly as [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] or [name_u]Courtney[/name_u], etc.
