Have you ever considered that you’re too ahead of the curve.
For example, my grandmother named her daughters [name]Lauren[/name] and [name]Jennifer[/name]. In the 1950s.
Growing up my mother’s name was pronounced Laur-een and people thought she was a boy. Now I get called [name]Lauren[/name] mistakenly all the time, I think it’s because it’s a name of my generation, not my mother’s.
Now we have the ssn list, so we can look at the rate of the rise and fall of names.
So what do you think. Could you accidently name your child the next generation’s [name]Emily[/name]?
This has absolutely nothing to do with your post, but I recognized your username from the blog today. Can I just say that I was absolutely floored to see that there are other Mamoo’s in the world! That is what I call my grandma and I have never met anyone else that used it Sorta neat!
I’m not, but my mom named me [name]Lillian[/name] in 1978. I never had a single pencil or barrette or anything with my name on it. But now it is popular and I know lots of little girls with my name! Not exactly [name]Emily[/name], but still.
Yes!! I think about that all the time. We are so attune to names that it is very possible we may pick a solid name that is thrust into the top ten a decade later. A lot of the names I have choosen in the past have done just that. [name]How[/name] can you know?
When I was born in the mid-80’s, [name]Sophia[/name] was a very unusual name, especially in my area! I never had a single notepad, hairbrush, or mug with my name on it, and people always used to pronounce it incorrectly, or call me [name]Sophie[/name] (which I HATE). And now… it’s an epidemic. [name]Every[/name] time someone mentions popular names they talk about the “plague” of little [name]Sophia[/name]'s and [name]Isabella[/name]'s. I’m kind of annoyed that my name has lost its elegant, unique and timeless flavour, but at least when people see my name in 20 or so years they’ll assume I’m 20 years younger than I really am, which can’t be a bad thing! I’ve still never actually met another [name]Sophia[/name] (except for one who was named after me)… but it’s only a matter of time!
I posted something about this the other day. I named my daughters 7 and 4 years ago and while reading this site, I am so nervous that their names are destined for top 10. One commenter on my question even mentioned my little one’s name!
I chose names I have loved since HS and am surprised that I hear them more and more!!!
Very frustrating indeed.
