Okay, so I really like the name [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] but initially dismissed it as being too similar to my brother’s girlfriend’s surname. However, I am now reconsidering both because I don’t know how much it really matters and because I know my brother intends to propose reasonably soon and I expect she will take his surname when they get married, anyway.
So, with [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] back on the table I discussed it with DH earlier and he responded very positively to it (we have been struggling to find names we both like so it’s really nice to find one we both like so much).
However, now I’m slightly worried about the fact it has the same ending as our other son’s name. His name is [name_u]Corbyn[/name_u]. So, what do you guys think? Are [name_u]Corbyn[/name_u] and [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] a no-no as a ‘sibset’ or does it sound okay?
I think they’re fine together. I know alot of people don’t like sib-sets that end in the same sound but I think they’re different enough and it doesn’t bother me. Also, they’ll always be siblings but won’t always live together. They’re their own people and I’d pick a name I love even if it doesn’t go as a sib set. As long as they don’t rhyme or are variants of the same name, it’s fine [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
Same endings don’t bug me at all. Besides, the rest of the sounds in [name_u]Corbyn[/name_u] and [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] are very different. I think they’d work well together for brothers.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply. I’m feeling really positive about the name, now. I’ve still got another three months to go but we had narrowed names down to four options quite early with our son (plus he was two and a half weeks early) so I was starting to get a little twitchy at not being able to agree on much this time round!
I think it’s fine. Honestly, the only thing they have in common are that they’re both two syllables and both end in the “in” sound. Which isn’t a dealbreaker at all, imo. It’s not that different from naming two girls [name_f]Mirabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]. Sure, they both end in “A” and are both 4 syllables, but I still think it’s fine.
