My youngest daughters name is [name]Scarlett[/name]. And if we were ever to be blessed with another little girl in the future, we are seriously considering using the name [name]Juliette[/name]. When we told our good friend what we were planning, her instant response was: ‘Oh, [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Juliette[/name]…they’re a bit matchy, aren’t they?’
So my question for you is: [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Juliette[/name]? Are they to matchy/rhymey for sisters?
Thanks, [name]Bree[/name]
I can see how they are a matchy, but I don’t think they are all that rhymey because, to me anyway, Scarlett ends in an “it” sound whereas Juliette ends in an “et” sound.
I think if you spelled the name Juliet it would look less matchy.
Scarlett and Juliet
vs Scarlett and Juliette.
Also - I now see that you have 5 children. I think that it also makes it less matchy that way somehow rather than if it were just Scarlett and Juliette. I don’t know if that makes sense, but for some reason thats how it strikes me if I read down the whole list of your childrens names and add Juliette to the end.
It’s only the endings that are the same, otherwise the other sounds are completely different and they certainly don’t rhyme. I actually don’t think I’d notice if you were telling me the names of your children. It’s only written down that they look similar.
Having said that I don’t have an issue with similar ending names, most of my favourite boy’s and girl’s names end in the ‘a’ sound.
They sound really cute! Not matchy except if you really look for it! I agree though that you would spell it [name]Juliet[/name] instead of [name]Juliette[/name], i just perfer that spelling but it would look less matchy.
I wouldn’t say they are too matchy, but they sound a little too much alike for my taste and the spelling of [name]Juliette[/name] doesn’t exactly work in its favor.
[name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] would be less matchy if you ask me. It’s the same name, yes, but at least they don’t look so much alike.
I think syllable emphasis makes all the difference here. For [name]Scarlett[/name], the emphasis is on the first syllable so it doesn’t really sound like [name]Juliet[/name] (I like the Shakespearian spelling too FWIW) where the emphasis is on the last syllable. You might have more of a rhyming issue if you were going with, say, [name]Colette[/name], where the both names place the emphasis at the start so they sound more matchy.
Yeah, I might agree with your friend, but [name]Juliette[/name] is such a pretty name! Maybe since you have 5 it won’t matter? Or do you like [name]Julia[/name] at all?
they are somewhat matchy with the t ending but if you really love the name do it. i think you need balance between loving names and getting too caught up with the sibset thing. as others pointed out you have 5 children so it dilutes it as well. there are the variations of [name]Julia[/name], [name]Juliana[/name], [name]Julianne[/name] if you like those as well
