yikes so! my parents are greek and i was born in greece, so i have a greek name
everyone calls me [name_f]Celia[/name_f]- which I hate
It is quite weird considering I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] names like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] that are very similar to [name_f]Celia[/name_f] but whatever!
My mother used to call me Cellie a lot (pronounced like silly) but I still strongly disliked my name, to the point of which I am seriously considering changing my name, despite the time and paperwork and money it will take…
But recently a friend said “[name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce [name_f]Celie[/name_f] like [name_f]Kellie[/name_f]?”
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]/[name_f]Kellie[/name_f] and by doing that I wouldnt have to go through the trouble of changing my name
I know it is not perfect but could it work out?
Are you asking if as a [name_f]Celia[/name_f] you can go by the nickname Cellie (pronounced like [name_u]Kelly[/name_u])?
I’d say you can try to go by any nickname that you’d like, it doesn’t really have to be related to your name. But I think I’d spell [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] as [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] or [name_f]Kellie[/name_f], correcting the pronunciation each time would bother me.
Good luck!
I suppose you could go by [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] but [name_f]Celia[/name_f] is really pretty have you thought of [name_f]Lia[/name_f]?
I have, I really dont like it, or any other nicknames like [name_f]Celie[/name_f] pronounced Silly or [name_u]Shelly[/name_u]
I guess [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is an okay nickname but im not too crazy about it
There’s just something about my name I cant stand yikes
It was an honor name, my grandma was named [name_f]Vasiliki[/name_f] (hence silia -> celia) but im sure she wouldnt mind
My mother actually wanted to name me [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (before it became so popular obviously) or [name_f]Salome[/name_f] hah
[name_f]Lilie[/name_f] would seem like an OK shortened form if Vasilikie. And I think it’s prettier than [name_f]Celia[/name_f].
Its actually [name_f]Vasilia[/name_f] but I suppose it still works
I dont like it as much as [name_f]Kellie[/name_f] but I guess I could think about it
Honestly, I don’t think [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] would be too much of a stretch for [name_f]Vasiliki[/name_f]—which is beautifully unique, by the way, despite the small pool of nicknames.
Honestly, though, you would have to explain you prefer [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] every time you write your name. A few suggestions for alternatives would be; [name_f]Vessie[/name_f], [name_f]Vicky[/name_f], [name_f]Lissie[/name_f], and [name_u]Kit[/name_u].
At the end of the day, however, it’s your name and you should be able to choose what you want to be called, no matter how out there is it.
