Are the names [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] ‘too much’? Would it be better to stick to just [name]August[/name] and [name]Delia[/name]?
I have never been a fan of “Au” names so I dislike both [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]August[/name], if he’s going to be called [name]Gus[/name] then I don’t think it really matters, if he’s going to be called [name]August[/name] then I would stick with [name]August[/name]. As a name though I don’t think that [name]Augustus[/name] is “too much” if that is what you like and what he would be called. Same with [name]Cordelia[/name], I feel more strongly about this one because I like [name]Cordelia[/name] but seriously dislike [name]Delia[/name], but the same principle applies. As names together or individual they are perfectly fine if that is what you like. But if they would always be [name]August[/name] / [name]Gus[/name] and [name]Delia[/name], then why saddle them with a longer name?
No! They are definately not too much. [name]Both[/name] are very handsome and beautifully classic names!
While I personally prefer [name]August[/name] to [name]Augustus[/name], [name]Augustus[/name] is very suave and most definitely not [name]OTT[/name]. (Though [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Maximus[/name] [name]Cornelius[/name] might be. ;)). I love [name]August[/name] nn Auggie - and love the Au sound. (Really don’t get the love for [name]Gus[/name] despite Dule [name]Hill[/name]'s character on Psych).
And I prefer [name]Cordelia[/name] over [name]Delia[/name]. Especially with a brother named [name]August[/name] or [name]Augustus[/name]!
I truly love both names, and [name]August[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] have been on my shortlists over the years.
My preference is [name]August[/name] over [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] over [name]Delia[/name], but those are just my tastes. I don’t think either is too much.
Well - wait - I do think [name]Augustus[/name] might be too much to use without a nickname. [name]Cordelia[/name] doesn’t feel any more elaborate than [name]Isabella[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name] and lots of girls use those names in full. But even though plenty of boys answer to names like [name]Julius[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name] without a nn, I think [name]Augustus[/name] feels like a lot to repeat time and time again. So if you’re not into nicknames, I’d probably shorten it to [name]August[/name]. It seems more likely to be used in full.
I don’t think they’re too much… [name]August[/name] and [name]Delia[/name] can be their nicknames if the longer forms sound too grown-up for them when they’re little, and they’ll have a mature name waiting for them to grow into as adults. Go for it!
I like all four. But I prefer [name]August[/name] to [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] to [name]Delia[/name].
Although, I cannot stand the nicknames Auggie or [name]Cordy[/name]. Yikes.
I prefer [name]August[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name]. [name]Augustus[/name] is extremely pretentious to me, and I’m not a big fan of [name]Delia[/name].
I too prefer [name]August[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name].
I do not feel that they are too much! I much prefer [name]Augustus[/name] over [name]August[/name]! And [name]Cordelia[/name] is gorgeous!
I think [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] are lovely. They have the same sophistication and noble bearing. I like [name]August[/name] too but not [name]Delia[/name]. [name]Delia[/name] is much weaker to me than [name]Cordelia[/name] (the “[name]Cor[/name]” strengthens the frilliness of the name).
Like previous posters, I like [name]August[/name] better than [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] better than [name]Delia[/name] (but I still like [name]Delia[/name]; it’s a lovely nn.)
I don’t think it’s “too much”
I was expecting something rhymey or super matchy like [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Nina[/name].
However, I do prefer [name]August[/name] over [name]Augustus[/name]. Again, I agree with a previous poster that it depends on what you plan on calling them. If you’re going to use nicknames or shorten [name]Augustus[/name] to [name]August[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name] to [name]Delia[/name]. Then why not just use [name]August[/name] and [name]Delia[/name]?
Nope
[name]Cordelia[/name] is very elegant but not in a way that presents its self like “I’m better than you and I know it.” but in a way classy, shakespearean way that’s humble and reserved but a tad outgoing, if you know what i mean.
[name]Augustus[/name] is also formal, and [name]August[/name] could always be a nickname. Its professional and says “I mean business” in a way that I think [name]August[/name] does not.
Not at all! I think you’ve paired them nicely – [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] sound fantastic together and so do [name]August[/name] and [name]Delia[/name]! I love all these names, and I actually know two little boys named [name]Augustus[/name]! I would love to meet a little [name]Cordelia[/name] or a [name]Delia[/name]. [name]Delia[/name] is a family name for me and I prefer it over [name]Cordelia[/name], which is very lovely, but the “[name]Cor[/name]” part just seems extra to me, personally, since I love and am more familiar with [name]Delia[/name].
Not too much at all! That said, I too like [name]August[/name] a bit better than [name]Augustus[/name]. [name]Cordelia[/name] is a favorite of mine, as you can see below.
[name]Both[/name] are great! [name]Love[/name] love love [name]Cordelia[/name].
Either [name]August[/name] or [name]Augustus[/name] are great choices in my opinion
[name]Augustus[/name] is too much imo, but [name]Cordelia[/name] is totally workable!
