A friend of mine is having a boy any day now and is in the hospital as I write this. She really likes biblical names but shes wondering if its too much to have biblical first and middle names. These are the ones shes considering. I said id ask peoples opinions on here. Thanks for any feedback
I think there are names that are very biblical sounding such as [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m] and [name_m]Esau[/name_m] and those that might have a biblical background but that one wouldn’t directly link to the bible such as [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m].
Others can sound very biblical when combined with a very biblical name while rather normal with a not-so-biblical name such as [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Levi[/name_m] and [name_m]Ezra[/name_m].
So, I’d say [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Esau[/name_m] & [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] are very/too biblical while [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m] do have a biblical vibe about them but don’t feel like they’re too much.
I’m not sure about [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] as I’m not sure how biblical [name_m]Levi[/name_m] is seen where you live it’s not very biblical over here).
Something like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] might suit her taste as well.
I’m not sure I can honestly judge because I love Bible names and as a [name_m]Christian[/name_m], I love the stories behind the names, too, but I have to say I love her taste! [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] are some of my personal favorites! I don’t think [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] would be seen as too Biblical here, as well as [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m], because all three names are very familiar/popular here. The others might be, but it’s hard to tell without knowing a bit more about her. Is she an atheist, trying to avoid too strong of a tie to the Bible? Then yes, probably. But I would easily use all of these, so I don’t think it’s too big of a deal (except for [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Esau[/name_m]. [name_m]Esau[/name_m] wasn’t the most savory character, so I’m surprised to see his name popping up here and there!). I would love to see [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], or [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] on her list, though!
I think it’s fine, and I love [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] or [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. From the list, I like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m].
Shes a fairly devout christian. [name_m]Esau[/name_m] i believe is to honour her grandfather. The others shes picked because she loves those names. Her husband has given her the reigns when it comes to naming baby.
I’m a [name_m]Christian[/name_m], and I love biblical names. But… a lot of these names do strike that “too biblical” chord with me. That doesn’t make them bad, it’s just that a lot of the names are so exclusively tied to the men in the stories. I would suggest using one staunchly biblical name and pair it with a more popular biblical name. [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] are all popular/common biblical names, so they don’t scream about their heritage. [name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], to me, are all names that I link directly to the Bible. Again, that’s not a bad thing. If that’s what she wants, she should go for it.
I would also suggest that she try and mix up the syllables of the names. Right now a lot of them feel kind of choppy, and I think that’s making me think more about each name separately instead of the flow of the combos. For instance, [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] is both two syllables so I think about [name_m]Judah[/name_m] and then I think about [name_m]Levi[/name_m]. It’s not one thought about the name. [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m], however, makes me think about the flow of the name. When it flows more, the names “feel” biblical together, but I’m not catagorizing each name separately. I have no idea if I’m properly conveying this thought, so just go with me. LOL.
Of her list, [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m] is my favorite, but I absolutely [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the suggestion of [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], which was given earlier. That’s a name to swoon over. I also really like the suggestion of [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], even though [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] wasn’t on her list. Both names fulfill what I said earlier about having one popular name paired with one “biblical” name.
Best of luck to her! Tell her congrats from us! No matter what, her boy will have a beautiful name.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. [name_m]Ive[/name_m] relayed it all back to her and she’d ideally like to use [name_m]Judah[/name_m] either as a first or middle so looks like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m] is in poll position at the moment unless anyone can suggest some other names to go with [name_m]Judah[/name_m] that i can pass onto her.
No, not “too religious” but the flow is off on some of these combos. [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m] & [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Esau[/name_m] don’t sound cohesive. The best one is [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m]. [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is better than the reverse.
Some of the combos do sound very religious, however many of the names that are and have been quite popular are from the bible, so while they have ties they are also considered classic names. If I heard, say, [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m], I might ask if they are religious and would not be overly surprised if they said “Yes” OR if they said “No, we just really loved the names” or some other reason.
If she is also a devout [name_m]Christian[/name_m] then I don’t think she has a thing to worry about with any of the combos. First and middle names are rarely heard together and many people won’t even know your child’s middle name so that should also help with her worries. The important thing is that she loves both of the names and how they sound together.
I quite like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Esau[/name_m].
Congratulations to your friend on her baby boy! I’m sure whatever she picks will be great! I would vote for [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m] or [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] as someone else suggested. Those combine a more common name with a more strongly religious one. Best of luck!
Personally, I think it’s totally fine to have two strong biblical names in a combo (though I think it is important to pay attention to the stories and use unrelated Biblical names. ie, as [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_m]Esau[/name_m] were twins in the bible, [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] [name_m]Esau[/name_m] would be too much together, but because [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] are from totally different times, [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Luke[/name_m] would be nice. note: [name_m]Judah[/name_m] and [name_m]Levi[/name_m] were brothers. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to make sure you know that), but if you are concerned, go with one biblical name that is classic and one that is strongly biblical, like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m].
If she’s a [name_m]Christian[/name_m], I think it’s fine. If she wasn’t religious she might get some questions about it which I guess might bug her.
The middle name is hardly ever used and most of those are pretty standard/popular names anyway. I mean [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Levi[/name_m], and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] are all in the top 300.
I definitely don’t think that two biblical names in a row are a problem at all! Off of the list I like [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. Other than that any combination with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is wonderful! Tell your friend Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!!
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m] or [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] !!! Unless she’s already named him and something else… They’re all good. We have double biblical names here and love them
But… Its better if she is actually Jewish or [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. And I agree its best to be aware of who the biblical figures if that’s where the names are being taken from. Many of her picks are brothers
I love mixing biblical first and middles! All three of my great-uncles have biblical first and middles. [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m], [name_m]Simeon[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Adam[/name_m]. My favourite combo is [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m]! It sounds so cool. Does she like the names [name_u]Seth[/name_u] or [name_m]Eli[/name_m]? I’ve always liked them for middles.
Thanks everyone. Shes due a c-section tomorrow and as of right now they’ve decided on [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m]. [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] is the paternal grandfathers name and they figured breaking the 2 biblical names up between another middle name makes it less religious sounding should their child grow up not wanting to be as religious.
