[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! Would truly appreciate some honest opinions on this from people who don’t know us
We have an 18 month old son named [name_u]Beau[/name_u], and we are expecting his baby sister in just a few short months. We’ve been discussing girl names and the ONLY one we’ve found that we both love is [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] [name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] rhyme too much to be sibling names?!
[name_f]My[/name_f] initial reaction was that they’re definitely too much together. However, the more we disagree on almost every other name either of us suggests, the less I find myself caring about the rhyme. I can’t tell if that’s because it’s really not that big of a deal or I’m just giving up lol. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband doesn’t even think they rhyme and doesn’t understand my hesitation.
I also feel like if we were to decide to have a third child eventually (undecided but entirely possible), that one’s name obviously wouldn’t rhyme and that would potentially make the dynamic even weirder?
I am also open to other girl name suggestions! The only other name I love that husband didn’t veto is [name_f]Lyla[/name_f]. He likes Hailey/Hayley/Haleigh but I don’t think I love it. Otherwise he tends to like more popular and/or classic names. I don’t like super popular but I gravitate toward the trendier side (if that makes sense?) so that’s mostly where we’ve been butting heads any honest opinions and suggestions welcome!
I think it’s okay! I had a similar issue - with my favourite girls name “rhyming” with our surname. I know it’s not perfect but we went with what our fave name was and don’t regret it for a second!
I think it’s fine. It’s not that matchy, it’s about the same as if you’d chosen names that both end with a
like [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f].
Some things that help these names be distinct:
[name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] are spelled very differently and look nothing alike
[name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] have different numbers of syllables
So I think it should be fine. They don’t rhyme that much, you didn’t name your kids [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] or anything else where the rhyming is really obvious. But if you find that the shared sound really bothers you, it sounds like you guys at least have [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] as a backup. [name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] also work well together.
And, to ease your mind as I hope this does, I think having a third wouldn’t be a problem with these names.
[name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], and [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] are just as nice as [name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], and [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] to me. All are sweet and cohesive in their own rights!
I think it’s fine, it might be a bit of a tongue twister for some people but I’d say they sound different enough that it wouldn’t come off as weird or intentionally rhymey. Now if it primarily bothers you, I’d say maybe look for something else, but if you’re mainly worried about others’ reactions I wouldn’t stress.
[name_f]Lyla[/name_f] fits perfectly well with [name_u]Beau[/name_u] too IMO but I think [name_f]Margot[/name_f] actually compliments it better
I hear it, but I think it’s alright. I think if we were talking about [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f], they would be too close. The syllable differences and “bo” vs. “go” make it workable, in my opinion.
But we can talk about suggestions, because lists are fun!
[name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] are fine for me - the extra syllable of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] separates them a bit! I don’t think you’d need to use a third -o ending name (I know sibs where two have the same/rhyme-y endings and a third doesn’t - think [name_u]Milo[/name_u], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] and Jude)
A few similar to [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] and Hailey…
I think they are not too rhymey, and go well together!
They aren’t too rhymey to me because of a) the different number of syllables and b) the fact that [name_f]Margot[/name_f] has the emphasis on the first syllable, unlike the word Merlot for example. [name_u]Beau[/name_u] and Merlot = too rhymey, [name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] = beautiful.
[name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] sound great together imo. I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] for multiple reasons, and I do think it rhymes with [name_u]Beau[/name_u] a little too much.
I don’t think they’re too rhymy! Also, I feel like adding a third child that doesn’t end the same would make it even less noticeable, so I don’t think it would be a problem!
So sorry for the late reply, but thank you all SO much for your input, I appreciate all of the feedback so much! It’s nice to hear from people who I know aren’t just trying to spare my feelings that the rhyming truly doesn’t bother them.
I find myself to be incredibly indecisive (I was this way with our son’s name as well, even though [name_m]Beau[/name_m] was the only boy name we both loved from the beginning) so I am still undecided on our daughter’s name as of now, with 3 weeks (or less!) til baby girl’s due date.
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] is still at the top of our list, but another we found that we both love is [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband still prefers [name_f]Margot[/name_f] but I have a feeling the decision will ultimately be mine once we meet her and I’d love to hear opinions on [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] (on its own and as a sibset with Beau). Also still open to more suggestions because I can’t stop
[name_f]Love[/name_f] to hear this, thank you! I think I know deep down it would be fine and we’d never regret choosing [name_f]Margot[/name_f], I just can’t help but think there must be other options we could love just as much that don’t rhyme?!
