I just saw the top 100 list of Australia and thought it would be fun to put the top 100 list of my country here! Anything you gals like? Keep in mind that in our language we have a hard ‘g’ and ‘r’, which you will here in names like Guusje and Roos… Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing this list. Is there a web site where we can find this info for other years? Would love to keep up with name trends in the Netherlands.
P.S. am very curious about the name Madelief. Is it related to [name]Madeline[/name]? Could you provide any history or background about this name? Thanks!
Also [name]Silke[/name]? It looks so much like the English word ‘silk’ – don’t know how it’s pronounced. [name]Lovely[/name]!
I don’t have the link of that list anymore… But I just googled it and found out it was actually an old list! The newest list you can find here: TransIP - Reserved domain
And:
Madelief is the Dutch word for [name]Daisy[/name] We pronounce it: mah-duh-leaf.
[name]Silke[/name] is actually a [name]German[/name] name. I searched for the meaning on Google: [name]Silke[/name] means ‘heavenly’'. But I also think it might be from the English word ‘silk’! It is pronounced: [name]Sil[/name] - ke (like the ‘k’ in [name]Kate[/name]…)
edited to add: I just read that [name]Silke[/name] could also be short for [name]Caecilia[/name] or a female form of the Frysian name [name]Sil[/name].
Really interesting! It’s great seeing names like [name]Noa[/name] and [name]Maud[/name] in the list. I’m also struck by the [name]Senna[/name], [name]Sanne[/name], Fenna, Fenne trend. I suppose it’s equivalent to [name]Emma[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Bella[/name] etc
It seems like the diminutives / nicknames trend is hot all over Europe at the moment.
I’m curious about [name]Marit[/name]. [name]How[/name] would this be pronounced? In my mind I’m pronouncing it mare-it.
Also I think [name]Bo[/name] or even [name]Beau[/name] would be a great spunky name for a little girl, I love it.
There are some really gorgeous names on there and a lot of them are v different to the UK which I found quite surprising. I really like: [name]Maude[/name], [name]Anouk[/name], [name]Tess[/name], [name]Marit[/name], [name]Noor[/name], [name]Gwen[/name].
[name]Marit[/name] is pronounced like: Mah-RIT (-rit has the same sound as -rid in [name]Bridget[/name]) It is a Scandinavian name (Swedish/Norwegian), a form of [name]Margaret[/name] and the meaning of [name]Marit[/name] is: [name]Pearl[/name]…
I noticed [name]Sanne[/name] is the name of the day today - I like how it sounds and looks, but wouldn’t it be a problem here that it sounds the same as the word “sauna”? Could it be a choice to rhyme it with [name]Hannah[/name] instead?
