I’d love to know what percentage of births were Muhammad/Mohammed! It makes sense though, tons of [name_m]Muslim[/name_m] families name all their sons [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] Something whereas families of other ethnic groups pick from a wider range.

Yes, it’s very common for [name_m]Muslim[/name_m] parents to give their sons [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] as a first name, but use a different second/middle name day-to-day. [name_m]The[/name_m] stats only show first names though.

Neither site has been updated yet, but Behind The Name and the Baby Name Explorer site both give annual percentages for each name.

I did a rough calculation using table 5 on the spreadsheet from ONS and came up with around 2.1% of boys called [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m]. I haven’t checked the different spellings of [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] / [name_m]Mohammed[/name_m] / [name_m]Mohamad[/name_m] etc but I doubt they’ll push it much higher (possibly to 2.5% but unlikely more than 3%).

According to Behind the [name_f]Name[/name_f], [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] accounted for 1.88% in 2024 so I’m interested to see if the share has increased (or if my calculations were well off :joy:)

[name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_m]Luca[/name_m] have risen quite considerably!
