Top names in 2050

Attempt #1 at getting the “dataphile” badge… This took forever to make, I see why only 13 users have it, lol.

I am presenting my predictions for the US top 10 for both boys & girls in 2050. I’ve analyzed many different sources to see what point we’ve gotten to! Also, I went into “important school essay” mode when writing this, so it is very different from my usual typing style.

Let’s start with the first thing that came to mind when I started this project — the “100 year” rule. If you don’t know what that is, it basically means that something that was popular 100 years ago is popular again today. According to the SSA & Wikipedia, the top names for boys in the 1950s were James, Michael, Robert, John, David, William, Richard, Thomas, Mark, & Charles. For girls, they were Mary, Linda, Patricia, Deborah, Barbie, Debra, Karen, Nancy, & Donna.

Using my better judgement here, I can see the following names coming back in the future (if they aren’t back yet!): Nancy, Donna, James, William, Thomas, Michael, & Charles.

I’ve also looked at trends over the pst few decades. A few names that have risen recently or have stayed at the top: Isabella, Aaliyah, Emily, Emma, Aiden, Noah, Liam, Camden, Alexander, Jacob, Olivia, and Scarlet(t).

I think Emma/Emily will become the next Mary: It will be very popular for a while & then just suddenly die out for good.

Another common thing I’ve seen recently is boy’s names on girls. So I will be adding Jayden, Hayden, Riley, James, Austin, Cameron, Frankie, Skylar, Jordan, & Stevie to the list for little women.

I have also seen a lot of Xs & Ys being used in names. I think Maddox has gotten some attention lately & other similar names will continue to rise: Such as Xavier, Jaxon, Braxton, Bryson, Ashlyn, Avery, Kaylee, Aniyah, & Lyra.

I feel like out-there word names will be getting more attention in the future, and I think many other people agree. So Dream, Haven, Honor, Valentine, & Delta are plausible. (Maybe not Delta because of covid but we will see.)

I am not going to include celebrity baby names because I think all current ones would have died out or become less popular by 2050.

I have spent a bit of time narrowing out my options & was left with 10 for each gender, which I then put into order. So, without further ado, I am proud to present: The top names for each gender in 2050!

Girls
  1. Emma
  2. Avery
  3. Olivia
  4. James
  5. Ashlyn
  6. Isabella
  7. Valentine
  8. Frankie
  9. Scarlet/t
  10. Delta
Boys

  2. Jaxon
  3. Liam
  4. Maddox
  5. Aiden
  6. Noah
  7. Camden
  8. Charlie
  9. Michael
  10. Dream

If anybody is curious, I found the boys’ list easier to compile.

*Mea.Ola™️ does not guarantee the accuracy of any names in 2050. Side effects of reading this post include: Heartache from seeing your favorite name and it not being there in 29 years, sadness from NOT seeing your favorite name, overreaction/rage because my list in different from what you predict, etc. etc.
