[name]How[/name] is [name]Tove[/name] pronounced properly? I only know one, and she says her name to rhyme with [name]Cove[/name], which I am pretty sure isn’t the authentic pronunciation. Nameberry says [name]Tov[/name]-ah, anyone know if this is correct? Or what the correct way is? Thanks!
Hmm, I know a [name]Tova[/name] and she pronounces it tov-ah, but I haven’t seen it spelled [name]Tove[/name] before so I am not sure, sorry.
Most if not all Scandinavian/[name]German[/name] names that end in e, treat the e as an “ah” sound. E.g. [name]Lotte[/name], [name]Elke[/name], [name]Lore[/name]
So my guess is that “[name]Tov[/name]-ah” is correct
The one [name]Tove[/name] I have met pronounced it toh-vay, but toh-vah looks correct, too. (She was from Germany).
[name]Tove[/name] is pronounced TAU-veh. [name]Tuva[/name] might be more like what you want, it’s pronounced TOO-vah.
The Scandinavian pronunciation of the 'e’s is very different from the English pronunciation of the 'e’s.
Here you can hear the Danish pronunciation of [name]Tove[/name] (with a strong Copenhagen accent, and said by one of our most brilliant Danish comediennes, [name]Linda[/name] P).
Exactly.
[name]Even[/name] after hearing her say it, I’m still not sure I am saying it quite right in my Canadian voice haha
Go here and you can hear what I assume is our own Dearest say it in Norwegian:
