[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], Gwenllian…they all are beautiful but oh so sad. I cannot separate the sad history from the lovely names. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you love them because they are tragic or because of the legends? I was just wondering what makes these names appeal to so many berries.
I mainly love the sound…It’s meaningful to have a legend, maybe tragic fate but not cruel or evil so no [name_f]Medea/name_f or something.
Tragier the better for me . I wouldnt love [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] or [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] so much if they didnt have the history behind . As pp said i wouldnt name my baby [name_f]Medea[/name_f] with such a bad story but why not [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] ?
For me, how a namesake lived matters much more than how they died. So, I’m not a fan of [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] because she was kind of obnoxious, but I’d absolutely use [name_f]Antigone[/name_f] or Gwenllian because they were awesome, regardless of tragic circumstances.
Geeknamezyo that makes so much sense. What did Gwenllian do? When I researched her it looked like she was I imprisoned in a convent from her early childhood until she died.
There are two Gwenllians–both tragic. The first one was a lot more heroic, though; she raised and army in her husband’s absence and was executed while fighting the Normans. The second one was imprisoned in a convent, so she didn’t really have the chance to do anything interesting.
Geeknamezyo - good to know, thank you! I’ve heard Gwenllian lately and felt like total ignorant
I don’t see why [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] are tragic, as [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] said, Gwenllian was pretty cool. She was raised as a shieldmaiden, learned to fight alongside men. She was the inspiration for Maid [name_u]Marian[/name_u], which makes her incredibly cool. She made [name_m]Wales[/name_m] unite, after her death but still.
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f], she was amazing! She was clever and skillful, and yes, she killed herself but it was considered better to commit suicide than to be captured and executed.
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] fell in love with men they weren’t supposed to, and of course it’s tragic that they couldn’t be together, but I think they had masses of bravery for daring to do what they did at the risk of everything.
And [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]… well, a bit of a drama queen, but which 15 year old isn’t? She ran away from everything she knew because of love! I think she was brave too. A bit silly, but brave. It’s always brave to follow your heart.
