Tralee?

I saw this name in a book when I was a teenager and pronounced it as tray-lee(rhyming with haylee or kaylee). Upon remembering it and researching it I found it is a place in [name]Ireland[/name] and it isn’t pronounced [name]Tray[/name]-lee at all but truh-lee with emphasis on [name]Lee[/name], I believe. So anyways, I kind of like the sound of Traylee. I’m not sure if I made it up or if its actually a name out there? Anyone heard of it? Is it too strange? I think it sounds like a cute girls’ name. Thanks for any thoughts… I think it was used as a last name in the book I read.

I’m not sure if it’s made up or real, but I know a Treylyn. (who I believe was named for a deceased relative). Honestly, both names are not my cup of tea and strike me as a little back-woods sounding (if you’re pronouncing it [name]Trey[/name]-lee). I would probably pick [name]Truly[/name] as an americanized version of the Irish place name, if I had to pick.

It makes me think that someone was trying to come up with names that sounded like [name]Shaylee[/name].

I think people will forever be questioning the pronunciation. “Is it truh-lee or trah-lee or tray-lee…?”

It does also look like a made up name, even though it’s not.

[name]Hi[/name], the sound is kinda cute, but I wouldn’t go there. My first impression was it looks like “trailor” or “tra la la la la.”

Like the pp, i also thought of trailer. I don’t care for it personally. I like another posters suggestion of [name]Truly[/name] instead.

Tralee pronounced Trah-lee. I think it could be nice, its a beautiful place and its also home to the [name]Rose[/name] of Tralee, an annual festival celebrating those who emigrated and are of Irish descent. [name]Every[/name] year a new “[name]Rose[/name]” is crowned, making her representative of the Irish community abroad. It’d be a really nice association. Strange and hard to pronounce, in my opinion.

Too many rhyming names already - [name]Bailey[/name] ([name]Baylee[/name]), [name]Kaylee[/name], [name]Shaylee[/name], [name]Hailey[/name] ([name]Haylee[/name]), Raylie. When I see it I pronounce it Tra-[name]LEE[/name] like the place.

TBH, it looks like a name that someone made up to be yooneek and different. It’s like taking the “-aden” trend ([name]Zayden[/name], Grayden, Wayden…) and using [name]Hailey[/name]/[name]Kaylee[/name] instead (Zaylee, Maylee, Vaylee…). I know you said it might be pronounced different but I think most people would say tray-lee because of similar names.

Traylee makes me think trailer…
