[name]Trevor[/name]! (:
They have totally different vibes. Despite their similar sounds, they seem that they are world aparts.
[name]Trevor[/name] gets my vote! [name]Trevor[/name] is a great Welsh name with a classic vibe. It has an British upper class reputation but it doesn’t sound stuffy. It seems like a wonderful name for a rough-and-tumble boy. It’s a name of some great British actors/directors (Sir [name]Trevor[/name] Nunn, [name]Trevor[/name] [name]Howard[/name] and [name]Trevor[/name] [name]Eve[/name]) and surprising number of hockey players (I’m Canadian so I notice these things :). The name has great flexibility. I don’t care for [name]Travis[/name] because I have only one strong association: country singer [name]Travis[/name] Tritt. The name seems “dated” to the 1980’s when it reached its peak and gives me a rowdy cowboy image.
At one point I would have said [name]Travis[/name] was the better name as I’m not a huge fan of [name]Trevor[/name]. For some reason it sounds pretentious to me. But I work at a plumbing company and we have a [name]Travis[/name] here and he has such poor hygiene you can smell him walking in the door still 30 ft from you. So now [name]Travis[/name], which once sounded handsome and distinguished, sounds like a short, plump, plumber with his shirt untucked and always smelling like the inside of a dirty sewer drain. Completely ruined it for me.
I don’t really like either, but I suppose I prefer [name]Travis[/name]
I find both incredibly dated. [name]Trevor[/name]'s the sort of name I’ve not heard used on anyone under 40, while [name]Travis[/name] is the sort of kid that would be hitting his late teens/early 20s now. I prefer [name]Travis[/name], but they’re two completely different styles.
If it’s the [name]Trev[/name]/Trav sound you’re attracted to, how about Trevelyan? It’s a Welsh name which can be Anglicised to Trevellian, and kind of has the surnamey vibe of [name]Travis[/name] combined with the Welsh feeling of [name]Trevor[/name], but that doesn’t feel as dated
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Trevor[/name]!
I do find the two names very different. [name]Travis[/name] is more country and [name]Trevor[/name] is more city. I prefer [name]Trevor[/name] because of the country-vibe of [name]Travis[/name] … but I like that you’re considering these type of names. Recognizable, not used much these days … much better than Trevelyan (had to scroll up to remember how to spell it).
I chose [name]Trevor[/name], but why not [name]Tavish[/name]? It’s far more sophisticated than [name]Travis[/name].
In the US, [name]Trevor[/name] is a distinguished name (in the UK, it’s kind of a middle-aged rednecky name: the best equivalent in the US is [name]Wayne[/name]). In the US, [name]Travis[/name] is not a distinguished name, it’s a 20-something rednecky name (along with [name]Misty[/name], [name]Crystal[/name], and the like). If that helps contextualize things.
So, if you’re in the US-- definitely [name]Trevor[/name].
