Tree Names?

I´m looking for middle name options that mean something to me. I absolutely love trees (that looks weird written down, but it´s true!) and I have almost an emotional attachment to their rustle, sway, and picturesque and stoic way. They take me back to my childhood instantly and they have a certain purity about them that just speaks to me. I have a favorite tree in practically every place I´ve ever called home. Could you give me some ideas for middles that either mean tree or reference a particular tree for boys and girls. For example, I love [name]Linden[/name] for a girl.

Thanks a bunch!

I have an identical fascination with trees. And just vocabulary in general. I have a top 5 list of words that make me swoon which also looks weird written down - so… I completely get it! LOL. That said, I have a list of names at the ready, should I need it (and fingers crossed hopefully I will soon!!).

If I were to have a girl, her name will be [name]Lennox[/name] [name]Arbor[/name]. [name]Lennox[/name] is from the Gaelic word meaning leamhanach which means “elm trees.” [name]Arbor[/name], as defined by Merriam and [name]Webster[/name], means “…a shelter of vines and branches.” swoon

Other tree names on my list for girls are: [name]Willow[/name], [name]Timber[/name] and [name]Briar[/name]. “Nature” names: [name]Ember[/name] and [name]Roux[/name].

For boys, I only have one tree name on my list: [name]Cormac[/name]. The others are more of the “nature” variety, including: [name]Fielding[/name], [name]Lochlainn[/name], [name]Wilder[/name] and [name]Birch[/name].

BTW, I also have traditional name lists, and [name]Wade[/name] is on my list for a boy. [name]LOVE[/name]! Should I go a more traditional route, however, I’ll still find a way to get my tree names in!! For a boy: [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Wade[/name] [name]Cormac[/name] or [name]Arbor[/name]. For a girl: [name]Helena[/name] [name]Wren[/name] [name]Briar[/name] or [name]Lennox[/name].

Anyway, good luck to you! [name]Hope[/name] this is helpful!

I´m glad you get it Envyc11  They are pretty magical and it´s nice to have that in common with another berry. I really like the suggestions of [name]Arbor[/name] and [name]Lennox[/name]. I love the definition [name]Cormac[/name] has on nameberry, but then I checked it on behindthename and babynames.com and they both give a very different and dark definition! What a shame! It sounds very handsome and american (given the writer) which are both things I´m looking for in a boys middle name besides just the meaning. I love the meaning of my name and I don´t mind that it is typically a man´s name, but I´ve seen one female character on a TV show with the name, granted it was for[name]EVER[/name] ago.

I enjoy nature names and word names in general. I´ve had a babyname list forever and some of the most long-lasting names are: [name]Scout[/name] (g) [name]River[/name] (b). I really love it when the weirdness of using a wordname gets balanced with a literary theme because somehow it feels more substancial or less silly. Which is why I suppose I love [name]Scout[/name] and why [name]Cormac[/name] sounded so dreamy! I will probably end up having the weirdest sibset ever because my tastes are so ecclectic going from completely classic… like [name]Jack[/name]… to a nod to my husband´s nationality… like [name]Diego[/name]… and then over to the ones that make my heart skip a beat… like [name]River[/name]. And the same for girls [name]Cordelia[/name] to [name]Jillian[/name] to [name]Gemma[/name] to [name]Willa[/name] to [name]Scout[/name].

Thanks for the great response!

I adore the name [name]Arbor[/name] for a girl. I also really like [name]Elm[/name] for a girl, and I think it would make a pretty middle name. Some other favorites are [name]Cedar[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Olive[/name], and [name]Willow[/name]. Boy tree names are a bit harder for me, but some other posters have made some suggestions for those.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Branch[/name]?

Uhg! I hear you! My name lists are all over the place, too. From classic to unique to word-names to “normal” to downright odd! LOL

Oh, I love [name]Scout[/name]! And [name]Gemma[/name] and [name]Willa[/name].

What about Ames for a strong, American-sounding name? It refers to “those who live near elm trees.”

Or what do you think of [name]Park[/name]. I had [name]Parker[/name] on my list for a girl, and needed a one syllable name w/ a P for a boys name, so I just took the “er” off and slotted it in. I think it’s kind of cool… has a strong, masculine feeling to it.

The name [name]Waverly[/name] gives me the swoons, too. sigh

I like [name]Oakley[/name] for a girl.

If you are still searching for your perfect tree name, I have a few ideas! I actually wrote a rather extensive blog post on the topic - I also [name]LOVE[/name] trees! Find my post at Private Site

You mentioned [name]Linden[/name] - I love it! And love nickname [name]Lindy[/name] for a girl.

Some of my ideas for you (shortened version of my long list on the blog!):

[name]Birch[/name]
[name]Cedar[/name]
[name]Cypress[/name]
[name]Elm[/name]
[name]Maple[/name]
[name]Mahogany[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]

Like I said, there’s plenty more where that came from. When I eventually get to name my own little ones, I anticipate using a tree name in the middle too

I really like [name]Acacia[/name] for a girl, and [name]Ash[/name] for a boy

I’d [name]LOVE[/name] to use [name]Acacia[/name]. I think it’s really pretty. However, it is the name of a fraternity that had a chapter at my college (I was greek also) so I wouldn’t use it. Not a bad association, just a little weird. I know someone that named their daughter [name]Cacia[/name] (kay-sha).

[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
