[name_f]Bea[/name_f], that is. I’ve fallen for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] lately (even though it’s a small step outside my usual box) but I can’t decide which version I like better: [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
I love that [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is softer and more classic with that sibilant ending, and I love the namesakes from [name_m]Dante[/name_m] and [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]. It’s low enough on the popularity chart that it doesn’t scare me. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] gives me a soft, sweet, dreamy vibe.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] on the other hand is spunkier and maybe a bit more modern, but it still has that classic feeling. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] is a cool namesake and my mom prefers it. I like the nickname [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. The whole name gives me a high-spirited, playful, happy vibe but does the X ending make it too try-hard?
Another favorite [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] variant is probably [name_f]Beata[/name_f] (pronounced “bay-[name_m]AH[/name_m]-tuh”) but I think it would get butchered in [name_u]America[/name_u]…
What do you think? [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]? Opinions wanted
I really love [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] from Much [name_f]Ado[/name_f], but as a name itself, I prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] for exactly what you described - its spunk. It lightens up what’s an old-fashioned name and makes it feel fresh again.
It really depends on what name is going with it. Alone I prefer [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but I love the spunk of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] with certain combos.
I feel the same way you do about the two names. I don’t think you have to choose between them necessarily because they have such different vibes to them. If I wanted a sweet gentle name for my baby I’d go with [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], if I felt an energetic name was a better fit for her, I’d go for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. But I’m not a person that generally just picks out one name for my baby, either. I like to go in with the short list.
trix! I’m in the middle of the Divergent series, which has admittedly (significantly!) improved my impression of a [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but I still immensely prefer the spunky, Dutch, vintage (almost archaic, in a good way!) feel of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I always expect a [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] to be flimsy in character, a push-over, has no self-confidence, doesn’t stand up for herself, doesn’t believe in herself, doesn’t have any backbone whatsoever. I can appreciate sensitivity and sweetness and softness, but [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is just too soft for me. I always see in my mind overcooked spaghetti noodles, water-logged and soggy and swollen, and someone trying to whip someone else with them… I’m not sure why I see that image with [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], lol, but I do. It’s just a really disgusting and almost pathetic image for me. Maybe if [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_m]Prior[/name_m] had gone by [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] rather than just [name_u]Tris[/name_u], I would see it as a stronger name with some backbone, haha. Still a nice, soft name, but I much prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], it’s my 3rd favourite girls name! I also like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but I love the nickname [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], which is more obvious with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Tbh, part of the reason I prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], is because I needed a name that would suit a girl that’s a bit more adventurous, energetic and creative. But I think a [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] would be quieter and more reserved, maybe a bit shy, despite opposite personality of the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] character. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] also gives the name some history, so it still feels quite classic to me.
I’m exactly the same–I love both versions so much, and the spunk of -trix cancels out with the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] connection of -trice to make them perpetually equal in my esteem. Although most days I fluctuate from one to the other.
I think, if I ever and up using [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], it’ll just be whichever one sounds/feels best in a particular combo.
If it’s the [name_f]Bea[/name_f] part that you love, would you consider just using that? Then you don’t have to decide, and [name_f]Bea[/name_f] still works well for all ages.
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is a family name for me. So naturally I prefer it. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f], [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], Beatris, Beatrisa all seem made up to me becuase I am so used to the [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] spelling.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] does seem spunky, but also very child-like to me. It does remind me of the cereal as well. I do like the nn [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], but I know a [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] within my family who is nicknamed [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. She either goes by [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], or [name_f]Tricia[/name_f] to people she is not close with. But with close family, and friends she is known as [name_f]Trixie[/name_f],
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is so classic, and has many nn options if you wish to go that route. [name_f]Bea[/name_f] (be-uh) [name_f]Bee[/name_f], Trice, [name_f]Tricia[/name_f], [name_f]Trish[/name_f], [name_f]Trisha[/name_f], [name_f]Bebe[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Betsie[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] (yes, I have met [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]'s who went by [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Betsie[/name_f], etc.)
[name_f]My[/name_f] daughters middle name is [name_f]Bea[/name_f] to honor my grandma [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. However, we say [name_f]Bea[/name_f] like [name_f]Bee[/name_f].
I do like [name_f]Beata[/name_f], but I agree that here in [name_u]America[/name_u] it would not be pronounced accurately.
love both versions so much, and the spunk of -trix cancels out with the Shakespeare connection of -trice to make them perpetually equal in my esteem
That’s exactly how I feel. What a tough choice! I agree with PP that I’d almost have to go in with both on my short list and see which strikes me. I might slightly lean toward [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] if Divergent becomes a big thing.
It’s even hard to choose a nickname. [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] is great but I wouldn’t want to lose [name_f]Bea[/name_f]. And I feel like I could almost get away with one of my favorite NNs, [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], at least on [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] as I am always afraid I am mispronouncing [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. [name_f]Bea[/name_f] and [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] are both so sweet.
