Trixie?

We are trying to come up with a name for baby number three…if it is a girl I was thinking of [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] (as a nickname to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]), a name I have always loved. I see that it is on a Nameberry list of 50 names your teenager will hate you for, along side names like [name_f]Cherry[/name_f] and [name_m]Elmer[/name_m]. Really? What am I missing about [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]? Is it really an embarrassing name? Thanks for your input!

I’d certainly find it embarrassing. There are sexual connotations, and aside from that, it sounds rather infantile. I’d put it in a category w/[name_f]Bambi[/name_f] or [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], and I would never use it for a child. [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is cute.

I don’t know about embarrassing, but it’s personally not my style. Though if her name is [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and only nickname [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], she has other options to be called by if she grows up and doesn’t like [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. She could go by [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_f]Bee[/name_f], or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] itself.

It could be that [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] is a stereotypical name for a pet doggie, along the likes of Spot or [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. That’s the only thing I can think of.

I love [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]! It’s one of the main reasons I prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] to [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. I’ve always seen it as a feisty little nn for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], and even as a stand alone name I love it. It might just be due to an association I have, but glamorous film star (à la [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Hepburn and [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u]) comes to mind with [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. I’ve never really seen why it gets such bad press. Definitely don’t think your daughter would ever hate it, and even then, she could easily go by [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] in full.

Hmmm, I had never thought of it having any sexual connotations or being a dog’s name. When it comes to stuff like that though it isn’t about what I think of, it is about what other people think of when they hear the name, so good to know. Thank you.

I definitely don’t like [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. I associate it with [name_f]Trix[/name_f] cereal and [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] Tang from the Fairly Odd Parents.

I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (it is at the top of my girls list too) but find [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] unappealing and kind of stripper-ish. However I don’t think the potential nickname ruins the name at all.

[name_f]Trixie[/name_f] is adorable to some and juvenile or suggestive to others. If you are using [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] as a first then I wouldn’t hesitate to proceed and use [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] as a nn. If/when your daughter tires of it, there are plenty other nicknames and a beautiful full name to fall back on. No worries.

I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Has long as you give her the full name, [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] is a fine nickname. If you doesn’t like it se has the option of going by [name_f]Bea[/name_f].
