I don’t understand ovulation! If you are regularly charting ovulation with a test strip, I understand that you’re ovulating when the test line is a dark as/darker than the control line, but given that information, how do you implement the data to conceive? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have sex the day of ovulation? Right before that day? I’ve read a bunch of different things and I’m so confused. Some websites say that the best chance of pregnancy is 1-2 days before, while the box says your best chance of pregnancy it to have sex 24 hrs after the rise in lh.
*Ovulation occurs 12-24 hrs. after you’ve had a positive/peak lh test.
*After ovulation occurs your egg is viable for 24-36 hours.
*Sperm can survive inside of you for up to 5 days max.
*statistically speaking the best days to concieve is peak day and ovulation day.
Beyond that it kind of depends on you and your partners body. (Which can be super frustrating when you’re trying to give yourself the best chance you can, because there’s really no way to know some of this info without dr.s help)
Some women’s ph balance isnt as friendly to sperm and they wont survive as long, so its better if you do it closer to ovulation. Some womens anatomy/cm/etc. make it harder to for sperm to reach the egg, so doing it every other day (within your fertile window) ensures that there is enough time for sperm to be in the right place. Some men’s sperm have lower motility which also makes it a little more difficult for them to get where they need to be. Some men have lower sperm count per ejaculation, which sometimes is helped by doing it every other day, other times it improves by abstaining until the day of.
But generally speaking if you do it right around ovulation time you’ve got about as good as a chance as any.
Ovulation tests can vary but you typically ovulate 12-24 hours after your LH first surges. [name_m]Peak[/name_m] further shortens that window to about 8-20hrs. The 3 days leading up to ovulation are typically considered the ideal days for conception, especially because the sperm have to undergo capacitation. So it’s best to try as soon as you see a positive LH.
If tracking LH is stressing you out, the cycle we conceived we were just trying every other day as I had run out of LH strips and didn’t want to order more before we moved and just have something else to pack.
@namergirl3 [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to say I’m thinking of you and your journey. I remember your TTC journey with your first and how hard it was. I hope things work out easier and sooner this time around. I’m sorry you feel discouraged. Sending love and hugs! xx
When you say “a positive LH surge,” what does that mean? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you mean when the test lines start to become darker over the course of days as you get nearer to ovulating? Is there a jump from the baseline lighter line (my data) or a gradual rise to the darker control line? Rephrasing what sounds like a confusing last question: does the test line grow gradually darker or does it get much darker really fast right before ovulation? I’m not sure if that makes any sense.
Women can have different types of surges. Some are gradual and some are quick. Mine, for example, were normally pretty quick. I could have a lighter one at noon and then get a positive (as dark or darker than the control line) around 4-5pm. Once there’s a positive, ovulation is typically about 12-48hrs away (give or take) so no need to test anymore. I was confirming with BBT as well to make sure I was ovulating (BBT confirms, LH predicts) so that narrowed my window (I normally ovulated the next day after the surge) but if you’ve not had anovulatory problems in the past, it’s likely not an issue. I was doing that only because I have PCOS.
It’s ideal to have sperm already awaiting the egg and the three days leading up to ovulation are considered ideal for that condition, especially O-1 and O-2.
We didn’t have problems concieving our 2nd, but we’re currently trying for our 3rd, and tbh its the first time we’ve actually ‘tried’ and it is totally frustrating!
I wish I had more words of encouragment. But just wanted to let you know you’re not alone. You’re always welcome to come and vent or share here!
We are TTC#2. We started officially in [name_m]Jan[/name_m]. I have skipped 2 periods since then just bc of my PCOS. It has been really frustrating tbh.
I have a fertility appt in [name_m]August[/name_m]. Hopefully they can help me out.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I’m no longer in the ttc boat, I wanted to stop in and wish everyone some baby dust and crossed fingers for sticky babies in the near future
[name_f]My[/name_f] brother and his wife announced last week that they’re expecting their first! [name_f]My[/name_f] emotions have been all over, but at this point, I’m mostly just excited. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are both the oldest children in our families, and we’ve been together 9.5 years, so I did assume that we would be first to have kids, but that didn’t end up being the case. I think knowing that TTC is imminent for me is helping with this news, as I’m hoping we’re not too far behind. It would be wonderful to have two little cousins born in the same year, but I guess we’ll see what happens!
That’s wonderful! [name_f]My[/name_f] son and his cousin are really far apart in age, so they don’t have much of a relationship. That’s hard for me because my cousins and I were close in age and saw each other often. Generations are just different, especially these days!
I have a hard time when I hear about pregnancy announcements. If I were in your shoes, I would start making some lovely gifts for the little one (or curating purchases for a nice gift basket if making isn’t your jam). I know you’re not looking for advice, but I couldn’t help myself
Congratulations on the nibling @jules95 ! I’ve always wanted my brothers to have kids as well but at this point if someone announced a pregnancy before us I’d have pretty mixed feelings too.
Tomorrow we’ll find out if the first round of hormone injections worked. I’ve been symptom spotting like crazy, interpreting every little change in my body as a good sign. Well, either I’ll be back with good news or I can at least stop that
Well we’re back in the waiting phase. Im praying this is our month. If we didnt concieve this month we may be out again until January. We are hoping to travel next summer to see my grandparents (who live on the opposite side of the country and are at the point in life where you might not have a next year) And if we didnt concieve this month that means if we continue to try for the rest of the year, next summer Id either be too pregnant to fly or have a brand new baby, who I would not want to take on a plane. So we’d have to decide between continuing to ttc this year or visiting my grandparents and taking the girls to see their great grandparents.
@Wandarine fingers crossed for you! I hope it all goes well.
I’m still playing the lovely game of “Is it PMS or early pregnancy symptoms?” over here. Three more days until I’m supposed to test, so four until I actually will test because I’m not doing that at my parents’ place
OMG same. Once again I am CD 44 and no period. Seriously, this whole year has been so weird. Multiple long cycles in a row. I can’t wait until my obgyn appt next week. I am starting to think there is something wrong.
I took one test about a week ago and it was negative. I am so over negative tests and will just wait it out.
