I live in the south/country too and I have to say [name_m]Ridge[/name_m], Riggs, [name_m]Hayes[/name_m],and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] (Hud) are all pretty common/accepted. Tuff seems very out of place with these names to me. I am usually an advocate for uncommon names if the parent loves them but this seems too far out there even for me. Sorry to be so blunt.
Townes is adorable though.
Some Suggestions:
[name_m]Rockwell[/name_m] ([name_m]Rock[/name_m] or [name_m]Rocky[/name_m])
[name_m]Conway[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
[name_m]Booth[/name_m]
[name_m]Booker[/name_m]
[name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] ([name_u]Gus[/name_u])
[name_m]Rider[/name_m]
[name_m]Stone[/name_m]
[name_m]Bridger[/name_m]
[name_m]Callaway[/name_m] ([name_u]Cal[/name_u])
Please, please donât name a child Tuff. He will likely not stay in the South in the country his whole life, and I canât think of a single place Iâve lived where introducing yourself as âTuffâ wouldnât elicit disbelief and ridicule. Itâs a fine name for a dog, but a child? No.
Townes nn [name_m]Tom[/name_m] if you want something short and snappy.
Thanks for your help everyone. I know a lot of people are hesitant of Tuff. There are two in the small town where we live so I thought it would be more welcomed. Itâs nice having outside perspective though and I appreciate everyoneâs input. Also thank you for the alternative names!! Keep them coming!! Thanks again!
Put these names in the rubbish bin and start over
I really dislike both of these names, especially Tuff. They donât sound like real names and they have a lot of teasing potential. You should really try looking for other options.
You could always go with Townes F⌠and call him Tuff as a nickname.
Townes [name_m]Franklin[/name_m]
Townes [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
Townes [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
If there are two Tuffs that you know of in your small town, I wonder you wouldnât want to pick something different. Tuff is so unheard of; itâs not like knowing two Liams or two Jacksons.
Tbh, I donât love either name, but I definitely think Townes is the better option. [name_m]Wells[/name_m], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], & co. are currently gaining popularity, so Townes might work fairly well. If you love it, use it. (Sorry I canât say the same for Tuff.)

Personally, I wouldnât choose either. But if I had to pick, then Townes. As a previous poster said, your son may not stay in the same rural town forever.
