Tuilelaith

Anyone know how the name [name]Tuilelaith[/name] is pronounced?

I’ve seen many pronunciations of the Irish name [name]Tuilelaith[/name]. It depends on what website you view or what book you read. I have an Irish baby name book that states it’s pronounced “twil-ay-la” which is my personal fave. Another website has it pronounced as “[name]TIL[/name] ah lah” and still another has “til-yeh-lah”. It means “lady of abundance”. [name]Tallulah[/name] is the form that most people have heard. Perhaps one of the Irish Nameberries who speaks Gaelic can shed some light on the correct pronunciation. If you live outside of [name]Ireland[/name], I can see pronunciation issues with this name choice.

[name]Just[/name] an FYI - [name]Tallulah[/name] / Talulah is a sound-alike but does have its own Choctaw etymology, jumping water : D. Maybe you knew that already, just wanted to be sure it was clear. All best!

[name]EDIT[/name]: And…behindthename.com claims Talulah/[name]Tallulah[/name] is really Creek for “town”, so, ha, who knows! I defer to any Native American [name]Indian[/name] linguists who may be reading. Wish I knew more.

In just looking at it, seems like tu-lay-la, but I’m no linguist.

There is a bird called Tui in [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand I think.
