Tullia

Encountered it scrolling through the depths of NB.
Can’t get it out of my head.
Not sure I like it, exactly, but definitely find it way more striking than the average rare name.
Thoughts?

That’s actually a pretty nice, unheard of name. It’s definitely growing on me!

It also kind of looks like a misspelling of Julia, but it’s still a pretty name, plus it has a legit history, not some made-up made with random Scrabble tiles name.

Thanks! That is kind of how I am feeling exactly. It makes me think of tulle cloth, which is pretty.
The nickname [name]Tully[/name] is also pretty nice to me. I like [name]Tally[/name] better (for [name]Talia[/name] maybe, or [name]Talitha[/name]), but [name]Tullia[/name] nn [name]Tully[/name] is also cool.
I hear you on [name]Julia[/name] : D!
[name]Tulia[/name] is a possibly related name.
Also like the sound of that, although it makes me think a bit too much of “tool”, and also looks even more like [name]Julia[/name] misspelled!

It’s my name! Although I am [name]Tully[/name] 99% of the time. My parents liked [name]Tully[/name] but were worried about giving me (a girl) a boy’s name, so they put [name]Tullia[/name] on my birth certificate as a fall back but always called me [name]Tully[/name].

I like [name]Tullia[/name] (although I don’t use it much) but no-one can ever spell it or pronounce it and people even think that my name is [name]Julia[/name] but I can’t spell it myself or think that it should be pronounced like [name]Tahlia[/name], I have even had people arguing this with me. It does get very annoying. On the flipside everyone ‘gets’ [name]Tully[/name] and I nearly always get compliments on it.

Wow! So cool to “meet” a [name]Tullia[/name]! Thanks for your insight! So glad to hear you like it on the whole, although that’s annoying with the frustrations. Most every name has at least some frustrations though.

[name]How[/name] did your parents find the name [name]Tullia[/name] pre-Internet? : D. I mean, I’m guessing books, but curious if there’s another story. Or did they “create” it to get to [name]Tully[/name]?

A friend of mine has a FB friend called [name]Tulia[/name]. (Spelled that way). She’s Finnish ([name]Tulia[/name], not the friend.)

I think it looks gorgeous, but only if it’s pronounced to rhyme with [name]Julia[/name] (not ‘[name]Tully[/name] -uh’), which I’m presuming it is…?

Yes, [name]Tully[/name] & [name]Tullia[/name] both came from a book of names. Sadly, the book has disappeared; it had the shortlist of boys & girls names for me written inside the cover which made it a nice little keepsake.

Recently I met my first ever other [name]Tullia[/name], and I asked if she gets called [name]Tully[/name] and she said “no, never!” as if I was crazy…

@jeska (nice handle ; ) )! - So interesting! I have Finnish heritage. I think I have a vague memory of seeing Tuulia out there, will have to research [name]Tulia[/name].

@lrmum - that must have been a neat feeling on the whole to meet her : D. Although I have a hard time seeing her having the name and not getting [name]Tully[/name] at least occasionally, too! I mean maybe if you didn’t like it and were clear about it, it wouldn’t be often, but still. That is the shame the book has disappeared. I hope it shows up!

[name]Tullia[/name] is gorgeous, I recently mentioned it in nameberry post because it has been on my mind since reading this blog entry on “[name]Baby[/name] Names From Yesteryear”

[name]Tullia[/name] - [name]Tullia[/name] Ciceronis was the beloved daughter of the great orator [name]Cicero[/name]. After her death in childbirth, a grief-stricken [name]Cicero[/name] wrote ‘I have lost the one thing that bound me to life’. Although her name has no known meaning, her largely untold story is enough to captivate anyone.

I think [name]Tullia[/name] is lovely! Very, very pretty.

I didn’t see a connection to [name]Julia[/name] until reading this thread, but now I get it, as I say TOOL-ee-uh. I love how ancient and rare and historical this name is. I can see [name]Tula[/name] being a nn possibility.

My grandmother’s best friend (they were both from Norway) was named [name]Tulla[/name]/[name]Tula[/name] (not sure of the spelling) and so I have always liked the name.

It seems to me that since [name]Tully[/name] was [name]Roman[/name], the name’s origin is probably [name]Tullius[/name]/[name]Tullia[/name]/[name]Tullio[/name].
