I always pronounce Twila like twEE-la. The letter I in Dutch sounds like -ee, so I was surprised when I found out a lot of people pronounce it like the word Twilight?!
How do you pronounce the name Twila/Twyla? Thanks x

I say it like as in [name_u]Twilight[/name_u], because that’s how I pronounce [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] too, because… idk it just looks like tw-eye-la??
If I saw this name I would assume it was pronounced like [name_u]Twilight[/name_u], but if I was corrected I think Twee-la also makes sense.
Would it make a difference if it was spelled like [name_f]Twila[/name_f]? Would you still use the [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] pronunciation? I’m so curious haha
I would assume twy-la (like Twilight) for both spellings, personally.
I’d assume Twy-luh (like Twilight)
[name_f]Twila[/name_f], [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] are both like twilight. Haha twEE-la reminds me of how some people call twitter “tweeter.” I’d bet that no one with the name [name_f]Twila[/name_f] says it twEE-la
twy-la, like twilight
I’d pronounce Twila and Twyla the same! Both like twilight.
I’ve never thought to pronounce it like twilight. I’ve also never met anyone with the name and have only read it but to me it was [name_f]Willa[/name_f] with a T in front.
So interesting
I would assume [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] for bother spellings
I’d pronounce both the same as twilight, because I first heard it on a character and it stuck so yes I would definitely assume tw-eye-la
I pronounce it like twilight, but I really like thwee la pronunciation.
I read Twila like the fabric twill-a.
But I could see the rising of Mila (mee-la) making the pronunciation that you want more intuitive/easier to explain.
I pronounce both spellings as Tw-eye-la. i think to me it sounds like a southern belle name so it has that southern twang to it, which i don’t think the Twee-la pronunciation would have. However, I think if you wanted that pronunciation you should use the [name_f]Twila[/name_f] spelling and then just correct people
I say both like twilight
I think of the cat [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] from barbie and the 12 dancing princesses, one of my favorites when I was little. They say it like twilight
I’d pronounce both spellings like [name_u]Twilight[/name_u].
I also pronounced it this way for a couple years until I learned the twy-la pronunciation
Another vote for pronouncing it like twilight! It’s the only way I’ve heard it personally!
Twy-luh, like twilight, for both. Like [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] in Schitt’s [name_u]Creek[/name_u]
