I always pronounce [name_f]Twila[/name_f] like twEE-la. The letter I in [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] sounds like -ee, so I was surprised when I found out a lot of people pronounce it like the word Twilight?!
How do you pronounce the name Twila/Twyla? Thanks x
I say it like as in [name_u]Twilight[/name_u], because that’s how I pronounce [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] too, because… idk it just looks like tw-eye-la??
Would it make a difference if it was spelled like [name_f]Twila[/name_f]? Would you still use the [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] pronunciation? I’m so curious haha
[name_f]Twila[/name_f], [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] are both like twilight. Haha twEE-la reminds me of how some people call twitter “tweeter.” I’d bet that no one with the name [name_f]Twila[/name_f] says it twEE-la
I’ve never thought to pronounce it like twilight. I’ve also never met anyone with the name and have only read it but to me it was [name_f]Willa[/name_f] with a T in front.
There is a character called [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] on Schitt’s [name_u]Creek[/name_u] who pronounces it like twilight, and so that’s how I think of it
I read Twila like the fabric twill-a.
But I could see the rising of Mila (mee-la) making the pronunciation that you want more intuitive/easier to explain.
I pronounce both spellings as Tw-eye-la. i think to me it sounds like a southern belle name so it has that southern twang to it, which i don’t think the Twee-la pronunciation would have. However, I think if you wanted that pronunciation you should use the [name_f]Twila[/name_f] spelling and then just correct people
