I wanted to open up a conversation about twin girl names [name_f][/name_f]- both the fun, creative ideas we love in theory and the ones we’d actually use in real life.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother is an identical twin, and her name is [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f], while her sister’s name is [name_f]Annetta[/name_f]. I love how their names feel connected yet distinct [name_f][/name_f]- not overly matchy, but still harmonious.
[name_f][/name_f]
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with the idea of twin names like [name_f]Summer[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_f]Rain[/name_f] or [name_f]Summer[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_f]Blue[/name_f]. I love the aesthetic and how they evoke such a vivid image. But in a real-life context, I probably wouldn’t go for them [name_f][/name_f]- they feel very themed and could create unnecessary expectations for their personalities, styles, or interests.
[name_f][/name_f]
I’m also very conscious of how names can unintentionally shape how others perceive children before they even get the chance to develop their own identities. This is especially important with twins, as they are often grouped together and compared.
[name_f][/name_f]
So, I’d love to hear your thoughts: [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Do[/name_f] you have twin names you adore as an idea but feel might not be practical in real life? [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Or[/name_m] are there any names you love for twins that you’d choose to use if you had the chance?
I do think these are very stylistically/aesthetically pleasing names and I have met twins with names that are very themed (think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] and Jade). While I’m not sure I’d do it irl, I think it helps if they’re established names and[name_f][/name_f] maybe more importantly to me, sound different from each other [name_f][/name_f]- so even though there’s an obvious theme, they’ve each got a distinctive name? I think that takes some of that ‘they’re just the same person’ pressure off?
[name_f][/name_f]
I quite like the idea of more subtle connections/themes [name_f][/name_f]- I knew sisters who both have Shakespearean names (Im0gen and Jul!et) for example [name_f][/name_f]- and I like [name_f]Carys[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabli[/name_f] together, which share similar meanings, but are obviously different names?
[name_f][/name_f]
If I was having twins irl, I think I’d still just use two names I loved, just as I would for any other siblings [name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- but some possibly impractical sets that I still think are cute would be…
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Fable[/name_f] and [name_f]Story[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Pepper[/name_f] and [name_f]Maple[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sorrel[/name_m] and [name_f]Sage[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Amoret[/name_f] and [name_f]Belphoebe[/name_f] (from a poem) [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Bebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Coco[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sol[/name_m] and [name_f]Suvi[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Melody[/name_f] and [name_f]Cadence[/name_f]
If I had twins ever I likely would not give them “matching” names, and instead just do names that I like that probably don’t have any tie. I don’t mind when twin names DO match [name_f][/name_f]- just not for me
[name_f][/name_f]
If I had twin girls tomorrow I would likely name them [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Dianne[/name_f]!
Twin names are always astonishing to me [name_f][/name_f]! For me I think I would use the middle name as a matchy connection so each kid has their own distinct name but if I wanted a theme or connection I would have it slated in the middle so it’s subtle [name_f][/name_f]Names I would likely Use:
This…. [name_f][/name_f]If I were having twins I would use two of my favourite names….Esme and [name_f]Oona[/name_f]. I think the names we love are usually a style that works well together.
