[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! I’m a longtime NB lurker and I finally decided to join the community. I apologize for this quite lengthy post, I hope you’ll stick with me I’m currently pregnant with fraternal twin girls, due in early [name_u]June[/name_u]. I’m a fraternal twin myself, and my parents definitely went the mainstream route with my sister and me - I’m [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] (#1 for girls the year we were born) and she’s [name_u]Allison[/name_u] (in the top 50 at the time). Needless to say, I was “[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] R.” for most of my school years since there was always at least one more in my class. I don’t want my girls to have this problem. My partner and I settled on [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] quite early on. It’s not too out there, but far from common, and I love the meaning and the sound of it. The other twin remained unnamed for a while, but as I’ve been stuck indoors for the last month and Netflix has become my best friend, I recently binge-watched a show where one of the main characters is a girl named [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. I love the character, so the name sky-rocketed to the top of my list. It sounds cool and fresh, but it’s got a great history too. I like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] together - they feel like sisters but are very distinct. As for middle names, I always knew I wanted to use [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] in some way - an homage to Birdy, a singer whose music got me through some incredibly dark times in the past. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] clicked together nicely, but [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] didn’t have a middle name until last night, when I woke up and had a revelation (has that ever happened to anyone else?). I thought of [name_m]Cove[/name_m] - it’s a nature name just like [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], and it creates a fun pattern: [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_m]Cove[/name_m] are both one syllable and end in a “v” sound, while [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] are two syllables and end in an “ee” sound. It’s not too obvious or mitchy-matchy, but it links the names together in a way that I absolutely adore. What do you think? [name_f]Do[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_m]Cove[/name_m] sound good together? Would love to hear your thoughts!
They work very well together. I would also suggest [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u] as a cute option too.
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Pheobe[/name_f] [name_m]Cove[/name_m] sound great together! I can’t think of a better combination myself. I think I might know the TV show you’re talking about and if so I also love her character & her name! Congratulations on your girls & well done with your naming!
I’m a fraternal twin and my parents named us typical names, too, [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (me) and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] (her), it’s refreshing to see you veering away from the mainstream with your daughters’ names! I have to say I am jealous of you, I so want twins girls in the future… we’ll see if that happens As for your names, I love them! They are perfect and I smiled when I read them. When I read [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] popped into my head immediately. Neither of them sound great with [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] as a middle name, but I thought I’d throw them out anyway incase you fall for one of them.
I love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], both seperately and together.
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] is just gorgeous, especially with the meaning behind it.
I love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and if you love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_m]Cove[/name_m] I say go for it. It does go together nicely with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. Personally I prefer pp suggestion of [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u].
If I may make my own suggestion i love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u].
I really like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_m]Cove[/name_m]. I think [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_m]Cove[/name_m] could be cute too since [name_f]Lark[/name_f] might age better since it’s less “cutesy.” But I still like [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and I understand that [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] has a lot of meaning to you. I know that [name_m]Cove[/name_m] has blown up recently since [name_u]Aspyn[/name_u] Ovard named her daughter [name_m]Cove[/name_m] and I like that name.
If you still want to see what’s out there to solidify your choice or consider other options I like the suggestion of dove (though I don’t think it flows well with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]). If [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] is something that’s really important to you to honor I like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u], or [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] Wren. I think it’s sweet that they could share that connection but it’s not too “matchy” for twins since it’s in their middle name. I also had [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] on my list for a while which I think is cute too.
Some other nature middles:
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
Bloom
[name_f]Blossom[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_u]Skye[/name_u]
The same show made me love the name [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] too! I think [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_m]Cove[/name_m] are absolutely gorgeous together - great choices!
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_m]Cove[/name_m] are delightful!!
They’re cohesive and subtly connected while also being separate and distinctive
Maeve Birdie and Phoebe Cove are a delightfully sweet and spunky duo. I love the connections they share without being overly matchy.
Maeve Birdie and Phoebe Cove are a gorgeous twin set!
That’s a great set! Phoebe Cove and Maeve Birdie work quite well together. If you want to make it more matchy, you can swap out Cove for Dove and the middle names can be bird based.
Normally I would say Maeve Birdie and Phoebe Cove were very clever mirrors of each other and lovely twin names, but I have heard Cove connected with COVID and given the timing, I’m sure a lot of people will ask if it’s a nod to the circumstances of your pregnancy. So I’d ask, do you want it to be? Do you care about the association?
If you’d rather leave that behind, Dove is a brilliant alternative.
@halwen
Hello to you, fellow twin! Your parents went the alliteration route too I see - also we both have Rose as our middle name, love that! I can’t tell you how excited I was to find out I was having twin girls, I am so looking forward to them sharing the same bond that my sister and I have
@floatinthesky
Good to see a fellow Sex Education fan here! (I do hope that’s the show you had in mind!) And thank you so much!
@TDFM
Thank you so much! And yay, another Sex Education enthusiast, am I right? - great show and also kind of a goldmine of great names, both among the characters and the cast
@WhiteGardenia @WannabeAunty @GenEric
Thank you all for the suggestion of Phoebe Dove - I do love it! (And Phoebe Wren is lovely too). I’m pretty set on Cove at the moment, but they’re both beautiful combos!
@em.estelle
You just made me realize that that’s where I first heard the name Cove - YouTube suggested me one of Aspyn Ovard’s videos a couple months back and it must’ve stuck in my head without me realizing it. Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions!
@Greyblue @grackym @leafsgirl44
Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it!
@pam
I’ll be honest, I didn’t even think about it until now! You’re definitely right - it might prompt some questions, but since I didn’t make that connection at all until you pointed it out (nor did my partner), we’re sticking with it for now. Of course, we’re going to see what our families think of the name and if the COVID association comes up too much, we’ll rethink it. Fortunately we still have a few weeks to go
Good! I adore the name, but better consider how you feel about the association now than once you’ve chosen it. Even if it didn’t occur to you, I have heard several other people on Nameberry make that association.
I think associated the name Cove with Covid is a bit far…
I instantly think of the coast, water and waves.
Ultimately choose the name that you want!
Love that pair for twins. They match in style but they aren’t too close. Uncommon but not unheard names, and the middles add uniqueness. i think they are winners.
Good luck!
I love Phoebe and Maeve. I have to say my first thought with Cove was Covid-19. Middle names don’t really come up much so it’s not a big deal but there are articles being written about all the babies named after this pandemic and a middle name of Cove might be lumped in. Just something to think about ! It it doesn’t bother you then go ahead and use it ! Otherwise, Dove is a lovely alternative that matches Birdie in a sweet way.
I’ll echo the sentiments of the previous posters. Maeve Birdie is absolutely delightful, but Phoebe Cove is just a little underwhelming in comparison (pandemic or not). I love the suggestions of Phoebe Dove or Phoebe Wren as alternatives which gives the twins a lovely connection with their middle names. Phoebe Lark would also be adorable.
Congratulations on the twins! I am currently expecting twin boys.
I think Maeve Birdie and Phoebe Cove are wonderful together!
