[i][i][i]My husband and I agreed on Adelrune as being our first choice for our daughter, but then we began thinking about twin names. So then we thought about a second optional name (just in case since twins run on both sides). We decided on Apheline.
I’m concerned about it being tacky to name your twins with the same first letter. I have heard people make such remarks and I’m hoping that you can give me your opinions? Is it or is it not? Thoughts please… Thank You!
Last name begins with a C, so the the initials for both would be AC, but the middle names would separate them.
Full names: Edit
Adelrune Esclarmonde [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] C.
nn. Runa ----(pronounced Ah-del-roon)
Apheline [name_f]Corisande[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] [name_f]Albertine[/name_f] C.
nn. [name_f]Aphra[/name_f] or Apple since Apheline means Apple — (pronounced Ah-feh-leen), the PH makes an F sound.[/i][/i][/i]
I think a good rule is that they can begin with the same sound OR the same letter, but not both. I personally have a soft spot for ‘same letter, different sound’ names like [name_f]Cicely[/name_f] and [name_f]Christina[/name_f]. Exceptions made for names that are otherwise wildly different from each other.
In your case, the names begin with the same letter and the same sound (I think? Not sure how to pronounce either), end with the same letters and sound, AND have the same number of syllables. That is awfully matchy. I think Runa and [name_f]Aphra[/name_f] by themselves would make far better twin names.
Thank You for your input. Adelrune is pronounced [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-del-roon, the first half is just the same as you would pronounce the name [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. Apheline is pronounced [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-feh-leen with the ph making an F sound. Adelrune is [name_m]German[/name_m]-Anglo [name_m]Saxon[/name_m] which means [name_m]Noble[/name_m] Secrete. While Apheline is [name_m]German[/name_m]-[name_m]French[/name_m] Canandian and means apple. [name_f]Apple[/name_f], would give Apheline an alternate nickname option from [name_f]Aphra[/name_f]. So They would have the same letter A, the same 3 syllables and both being word name, BUT their sound in the end is different. The nicknames would definitely keep them separated overall. Again, thank you for your input!
I think in your case, you may be cutting it close by having soo many similarities, HOWEVER, the names really sound and look aesthetically different that in the end you will hardly notice it. I think people who aren’t avid Nameberries won’t think much about it other than the fact that the name are uncommon, and both start with an A and have the same last name. I think you chose beautiful names and combinations. I personally like the nicknames, they fun and quirky with a hint if Sassiness, but in a good way not a disrespectful way. I think you should be find in the end.
While they start with the same letter, they are also both three syllables and end in the same sound. I think that if names start with the same letter they have to be different lengths or completely different sounds, but that’s just my personal preference.
I agree with pp about non name-nerds not thinking about it beyond the fact that the names are uncommon and start with A.
I think that Apheline could make a nice middle name. I think that your middle names are elegant but I don’t normally like more than two middles, otherwise the names are a bit heavy.
With the names you like I would use Adelrune Esclarmonde [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] OR [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] because the endings on those two clash and maybe [name_f]Corisande[/name_f] Apheline [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] for the other twin because [name_f]Albertine[/name_f] isn’t my style.
Other exotic A names:
[name_f]Althea[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f], [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] or [name_f]Amadea[/name_f]
Good luck:p
