Twin sister name for Luna

Hi there!

I’d love some opinions from this awesome community! My wife and I are expecting twin girls in the spring and we’ve settled on Luna for one girl and are struggling with a name for the other.
We already have one older daughter named Lily - would giving the third girl a non-L name seem odd?

We’ve gone back and forth on it, we thought of Lucy at first but not sure if it is too matchy matchy with Luna (Luna and Lucy). Other than that, the others we’ve considered:

L names : Lia, Leah (same as first just diff spelling), Leia (too Star Wars-y?), Lucy
Non- L names : Isla (this one is a top contender), Kya, Mina, Hana
Even considered a floral theme: violet, daisy, Rosie

As you can see, my head is spinning! Open to any other name suggestions too!

I think you can definitely use a non-L name for a third girl. Not odd at all!

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] are too close for me, especially for twins. [name_f]Leia[/name_f] and Leah/Lia are quite close as well. I would be tongue-tied to say all of them back to back!

I really like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] for you – ends with an -a like [name_f]Luna[/name_f], has an l as the third letter like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and has a distinctive vowel sound. [name_f]Kya[/name_f] works as well. [name_u]Mina[/name_u] and [name_f]Hana[/name_f] are slightly too close to [name_f]Luna[/name_f] for me.

The floral theme is interesting as it would connection one twin to big sister in a different way. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] would be my favorite from your choices.

[name_f]Luna[/name_f] is lovely - a favorite of mine. Excellent choice!

Unfortunatley I do think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] are two matchy. I do like the idea of keeping the ‘L’ theme going, though!

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] are a bit matchy for me - like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] meshed together.

I really like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] for you! [name_u]Bright[/name_u] and sweet - and it does contain an L!

I like the sound of [name_f]Kya[/name_f] (prefer the [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] spelling) and I like [name_f]Hana[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] for you!

[name_f]Luna[/name_f] is lovely very stylish choice. I also think L.ily works well with [name_f]Luna[/name_f].

I don’t think you should feel governed to stick with the L theme if you don’t want to. However an L theme would look the most cohesive so it depends on whether cohesion is a huge thing for you. For me themes aren’t that important so I would just go with the name you love! But for others it is.

I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is actually a great option! She feels bright, timeless and cohesive with [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I think because [name_f]Luna[/name_f] + [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] feel so stylistically different I actually do not find them matchy matchy at all. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is more fashion forward whereas [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is timeless. The other L names feel too matchy with [name_f]Luna[/name_f] due to similar endings.

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was a floral name so each twin has a different matchy connection with big sister. I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] sound fantastic together.

@VEL That is a good way to put it! I actually hadn’t thought of it in this way, in my head I was thinking if we went floral we would choose a different name than [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. Would that be odd having two floral names - like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - and then a [name_f]Luna[/name_f]? Certainly wouldn’t want one left out. But again, perhaps the way you put it makes sense, each has a unique connection to each other

With a L initial, [name_f]Lara[/name_f] was one of my first thoughts. I prefer the idea of another L-name… not because I want them to be matchy (I don’t tend to love that), but because I don’t want the third girl to feel left out. Since you already have [name_f]Lily[/name_f], I would either choose two L names for the twins or decide not to name one of the babies [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I like the floral theme idea. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_u]Rose[/name_u] would be great with [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

I prefer not to make the name choice about a theme but simply about the names we love or most agree on. It sounds like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] could be your front runner and for what it’s worth it sounds great with both [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

If you’re feeling unsure about the two shared initials, I find that changing the order of the names makes a big difference E.g. [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f]

It’s easier to notice other similarities and differences when the names are arranged like this. E.g [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] both ending with the same letter, all names being two syllables and four letters long and all names including an ‘L’ somewhere.

You might also like to give the twin who is born second the name [name_f]Luna[/name_f] to balance out the shared initial and having that name settled first. All the best with your decision whichever direction you choose.
